The event is a 1200m sprint race open to mares aged four-years-old and over and is run under quality handicap conditions. The Triscay Stakes offers $250,000 in total prize money and takes place as part of Apollo Stakes Day.
Apollo Stakes Day features four Group status races headlined by the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) and the Triscay.
Mares in the Triscay Stakes field may be kicking off their autumn campaigns and could back-up the following month at Rosehill Gardens in the Group 3 Birthday Card Stakes (1200m) for fillies and mares. The best out of the race may also continue onto the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) in mid-March.
In 2021 Icebath finished third in the Triscay Stakes results and went on to run second in that autumn’s Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) before winning the $2 million The Invitation in the spring.
In 2022 the Triscay Stakes winner Snapdancer backed up from a win in the Gold Coast’s Magic Millions Fillies & Mares.
Snapdancer franked the 2022 Triscay Stakes form going on to win Adelaide’s Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) that May. She was also runner-up in the Group 1 Tatt’s Tiara (1400m) that winter in Brisbane before winning the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) in Melbourne that spring.
The form out of the Triscay Stakes in 2022 was further franked with the runner-up Promise Of Success returning that October to win the lucrative $2 million The Invitation for mares, while the Triscay third placed Electric Girl ran second in The Invitation results that spring.
The 2024 Triscay Stakes form was franked with the winner Semana running a next up second in the Coolmore Classic before a third in that year’s Queen Of The Turf Stakes trifecta.
The Triscay Stakes 2025 ran on Saturday February 15, 2025 at Royal Randwick and saw the Godolphin raced Inhibitions ($13) enjoy a late upset in a lovely Group 3 performance by the improving four-year-old.

A bit of early money on the Chris Waller trained Cigar Flick to return to winning form in the Triscay and happy to follow that money trail. This four-year-old daughter of Churchill hasn’t been first past the post since June last year, but she has been competitive in plenty since without winning. At her latest she was under a length beaten running third over 1300m at Rosehill when down in grade for a BM88 back on January 18. She carted a hefty 58.5kg that day and will relish the drop back to 55.5kg as she returns to Group class. Small field and she’s drawn well in gate three for Jason Collett who should get the run of the race. She’s won at Randwick previously, is a Group 2 placegetter at her best form, and looks a nice price to perhaps surprise a few here.

Triscay Stakes History
The Triscay Stakes has been run since 1995 making it a relatively new race on the Australian Racing Calander.
It is hosted by the Australian Turf Club (ATC) and is named after former star filly Triscay who completed the 1991 Queensland Guineas – Queensland Oaks double.
It has been known by a number of different names including the Triscay Fillies and Mares Quality Handicap (1995) and the Triscay Fillies and Mares Quality Stakes (1996 – 2005).
The event started as a Listed race before gaining its current Group 3 status in 2014. It has been run at Royal Randwick since 2014 and was previously held at Rosehill Gardens, Canterbury Park and Warwick Farm Racecourse.
Notable Triscay Stakes winners include Victory Vein (2004), Hot Danish (2008), and Thump (2015).
