Run over 1200m the set weights plus penalties sprint is open only to three-year-old horses and offers $250,000 in total prize money.
It is the sole Group status race on the card currently featuring on its own stand-alone meeting. The Eskimo Prince Stakes may be the campaign starting point for the up-and-comers in the field.
Also held on the card, the meeting’s feature is the $2 million Inglis Millennium (1100m) for two-year-old Inglis graduates.
A good next-up target for horses coming out of the Eskimo Prince Stakes field is the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens. In 2016 Le Romain ran second in both the Eskimo Prince Stakes and Hobartville Stakes before his Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) win that March.
The last horses to do the Eskimo Prince Stakes – Hobartville Stakes double meanwhile were Man From Uncle (2017) followed the next year by Kementari (2018) who also went on to win the Randwick Guineas.
In 2022 the Eskimo Prince third placegetter Converge went on to win the Randwick Guineas two starts later before a second in that season’s Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m).
The 2022 Eskimo Prince Stakes form was further franked with the winner Paulele running third in that April’s Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m). He also returned in the winter to run second in both the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1200m) and Group 1 Kingsford-Smith Cup (1300m) in Brisbane before heading to Perth that November to win the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m).
The 2023 Eskimo Prince Stakes also produced that year’s Randwick Guineas winner with Communist improving on his third to take out the Group 1.
The 2024 Eskimo Prince Stakes form was franked with the winner Caballus going on to place third next-up in the $1 million Inglis Sprint.
The Eskimo Prince Stakes 2025 ran on Saturday February 8, 2025 at Randwick Racecourse as a lead-up to the Group 1 Randwick Guineas and was won in stellar first-up fashion by Written Tycoon grey Public Attention ($5).

Open edition of the Eskimo Prince but have landed on Snow In May taking on the boys first-up at a nice price. This untapped The Autumn Sun filly from the O’Shea/Charlton yard did plenty to catch the eye in her opening prep winning her first two career starts before a notable rise in grade to post back-to-back Group placings. She was runner-up in the Tea Rose behind Autumn Glow before a big Group 1 Flight Stakes performance here at Randwick over the mile when third to Lady Shenandoah. Eskimo Prince Stakes History
The Eskimo Prince Stakes has been run since its inception in 1984, and the inaugural winner was Run Ashore.
Since then, a host of notable youngsters have won the race including Spark Of Life (2004), Snippetson (2005), El Roca (2014), Scissor Kick (2015), and Kementari (2018).
The race has been hosted at a number of various Sydney racecourses including Canterbury Park, Rosehill Gardens and Randwick Racecourse where the event returned in 2016 for the first time since 2012.
It now runs at Sydney’s Warwick Farm track. It started as a Listed race before gaining its current Group 3 status from 2014.
It has been run over a number of distances based on the racetrack. There was no 2020 Eskimo Prince Stakes due to a washed-out Warwick Farm meeting with the race cancelled and not rescheduled.
