The 2013 Cox Plate Results saw $21 roughie Shamus Award make history as the first maiden Cox Plate winner. The Danny O’Brien-trained colt became the first three-year-old since So You Think for his first in 2009 to win the Cox Plate. It was a true fairy tale Cox Plate result however as Shamus Award led all-the-way posting his first win in the Group 1 classic with apprentice jockey Chad Schofield aboard.

The 2013 Cox Plate winner Shamus Award only made the field as the first emergency after the scratching of Atlantic Jewel and defeated Happy Trails by the barest of margins before the trifecta was completed by the Gai Waterhouse-trained Fiorente.
