The prizemoney for the 2020 Inglis Sires’ was reduced to $500,000 to help cope with the financial strain of the COVID-19 pandemic on Australian racing before being boosted back to $1 million in 2021.

The race is held on one of the biggest race days in Sydney – Doncaster Mile Day – that runs on the first Saturday in April as Day 1 of ‘The Championships’. The meeting has a total of four Group 1 races with the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) the other highlights on the card.

This is the first event greater than 1200m for all two-year-old horses competing in the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival and is therefore used as a guide to the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m), which is held on the final day of the Randwick Autumn Racing Carnival two weeks after the ATC Sires Produce Stakes.

The ATC Sires Produce Stakes / Champagne Stakes double has recently been achieved by the likes of Guelph (2013), Pierro (2012), Helmet (2011), and Militarize (2023).

Many of the horses that make up the ATC Sires Produce Stakes field come off a run in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill in March, which is the world’s richest race for juveniles. The last two-year-olds to win the Golden Slipper Stakes – ATC Sires Produce double were Pierro (2012), King’s Legacy (2020) who won the first leg as a $19 outsider in betting and the brilliant filly Fireburn (2022).

In 2021 Anamoe improved on a lead-up second in the Golden Slipper to win the Inglis Sires’ and went on to frank the form that spring winning the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) before a thrilling second in that year’s Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) in Melbourne.

The 2022 Inglis Sires’ form was franked with the winning filly Fireburn running second next-up in the Champagne Stakes results. She’s Extreme meanwhile improved on her Sires’ second to win the Champagne Stakes that year before returning in the spring to run top three in a number of Group 1 races including her victory in the VRC Oaks in Melbourne.

Chris Waller’s upset Inglis Sires’ 2023 winner Militarize improved on luckless 13th in that year’s Golden Slipper results won by his stablemate Shinzo.

Militarize went on to win that year’s Champagne Stakes at his next start and further franked the 2023 Inglis Sires’ form in the spring winning the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m).

The 2024 Inglis Sires’ winner also came via the Slipper with Manaal improving on her lead-up fifth to beat home the boys over further.

The 2025 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes took place on Saturday April 5, 2025 Royal Randwick on Day 1 of ‘The Championships’ and was won by the Matt Laurie trained VRC Sires’ champ Vinrock ($3.40F).

Anamoe ($1.90 in 2021) followed by that year’s Slipper winning filly Fireburn ($2.50 in 2022) and Vinrock ($3.40 in 2025) are the latest favourites in Inglis Sires’ betting to salute for the punters.

There was a notable upset in 2023 with Militarize winning at Inglis Sires’ odds of $21 for Chris Waller, while the sole filly in that year’s race Pier Pressure added further value to the trifecta running third at 150/1.

2025 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes Tips

Stay tuned for our insider Inglis Sires’ 2025 Tips on the two-year-olds’ showdown this autumn at Randwick.

  • To Win: #3 Vinrock ($4.80 at time of publish) – BET NOW

Tough race for the punters with the top three pretty hard to split especially considering track conditions. Going out on a limb and suggesting 3. VINROCK looks the value of them to make it a hat-trick and remain undefeated come Saturday afternoon. No doubt the current favourite 2. WODETON off his Golden Slipper second by a whisker will take some beating, but this Matt Laurie trained I Am Invincible colt certainly knows how to win. The stable won Tuesday’s Vinery with a filly who had never raced in Sydney before and think this two-year-old can do something similar on the weekend. He won at Pakenham on debut by a big margin with 58kg before rising notably in grade to salute in the Group 2 VRC Sires’ over this 1400m distance at Flemington by an equally impressive two lengths. Looked like he handled the Sydney way okay in a recent hit-out when second in a Randwick trial a few days ago. Mark Zahra stays on and he’s in good form too. Barrier one. Can keep the wins going.

The biggest upset in recent ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes history occurred in 2018 when the roughie maiden from Newcastle El Dorado Dreaming defeated the favourite Oohood to the line in an all-filly quinella.

Notable ATC Sires Produce Stakes winners include Ajax (1937), Tulloch (1957), Luskin Star (1977), Snippets (1987), Octagonal (1995), Dance Hero (2004), Sebring (2008), Helmet (2011), Pierro (2012), Yankee Rose (2016), Anamoe (2021), Fireburn (2022), and Militarize (2023).

The 2020 Inglis Sires’ was run during the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic in front of a spectator-free grandstand and saw co-trainer Peter Snowden win the race for the fifth time with King’s Legacy.

Trainer Chris Waller celebrated his maiden Inglis Sires’ victory in 2023 with an upset win by Militarize ($21) who was ridden to victory by Brazilian hoop Joao Moreira.
