Canterbury Park Racecourse is Sydney’s major midweek racing venue and home to the increasingly popular night racing. The track is only 15 minutes south-west of Sydney’s city centre and is run by the Sydney Turf Club. Although the racecourse is one of the closest racecourses for Sydney residents to access, it no longer features a racing carnival and is instead used for the midweek racing meetings. Occasionally the track will host a Saturday race meeting if Rosehill requires a break.

The clockwise track is considerably small with a circumference of 1567 metres and a straight of 308 metres. It suits horses that can lead or race on the pace. Overlooking the racetrack is a full enclosed air conditioned betting area.

The midweek races generally start around 1pm on a Wednesday. Seven races take place during each meet with plenty of handicaps ranging between 1000m and 1900m. There are heaps of different categories as well, including Maidens, 3 year old and over, set weights, colts and geldings only and fillies and mares only.

Night racing occurs from October through to February with seven meetings schedules on Thursday nights. The races are normally 30 minutes apart and have become a major hit with both racing enthusiasts and Sydney families looking for entertainment.

Car:

Canterbury Park Racecourse is on King Street in Canterbury, 15 minutes south of Sydney’s CBD. There is plenty of free parking available.
