The 2019 Melbourne Cup Results saw the Danny O’Brien-trained Vow And Declare become the first Australian-bred Melbourne Cup winner since Shocking (2009).
Improving off a lead-up second in the Melbourne Cup, the Declaration Of War four-year-old relished the step-up to two-miles and held off a string of internationals to secure the famous three-handled trophy.
The official Melbourne Cup 2019 results saw the previous year’s third placegetter, Charlie Fellowes’ UK raider Prince Of Arran, finish second following a successful protest that demoted original second-past-the-post, Master Of Reality, to fourth.
The protesting horse was the Aidan O’Brien-trained Il Paradiso, successfully elevated into third to complete the post-protest Melbourne Cup 2019 trifecta.
Jockey Craig Williams celebrated his first victory in the ‘race that stops a nation’ aboard the 2019 Melbourne Cup winner Vow And Declare, giving the galloper a brilliant ride.
It was also the second year the horse donning the Number 23 Melbourne Cup saddlecloth was successful following Cross Counter (2018).
