Our Ivanhowe Among 2017 The BMW Nominations

Upset Ranvet Stakes winner Our Ivanhowe is expected to back-up on the short seven day turnaround and is one of the key The BMW 2017 nominations taken for the Rosehill Gardens feature this Saturday.

Last weekend the Lee & Anthony Freedman-trained German import enjoyed his first win since last May’s Group 1 Doomben Cup (2000m) when taking out the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) first-up on Golden Slipper Day.

The seven-year-old stallion finally got himself a mud track and thrived on the Heavy (10) course to beat home the odds-on favourite Hartnell by over three lengths.

Post-race connections of Our Ivanhowe had a scare when he tripped coming back to the yard and looked to be lame.

He has since pulled up well however and the team have him nominated for another run at Rosehill Racecourse, capitalising on the Heavy track conditions in the $1.5 million Group 1 The BMW (2400m).

The BMW attracted fourteen early entries on Monday morning, Racing NSW extending nominations until 11am (AEDT) on Tuesday.

The Ranvet Stakes has produced three of the past five The BMW winners including Manighar (2012) and Silent Achiever (2014) who both completed the double.

Our Ivanhowe could chase the Ranvet Stakes – The BMW double last achieved by Silent Achiever (2012)

Co-trainer Lee Freedman won The BMW back in 2005 with champion mare Makybe Diva and has also nominated for Exospheric in 2017.

Beat Hollow stallion Exospheric has had two runs this time in, the Caulfield Cup third-placegetter last seen running under two lengths back for third in the Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington on March 11.

The Australian Cup last produced a The BMW winner last autumn when the Chris Waller-trained Preferment (2016) completed the double.

This season along with the third placed Exospheric, the other best out of the Melbourne lead-up are the Australian Cup winner Humidor and runner-up Jameka.

Humidor is after the double for in-form Victorian horseman Darren Weir after the Teofilo four-year-old got the job done for his breakthrough Group 1 win in impressive style on ‘Super Saturday’.

Caulfield Cup winning mare Jameka was brave in defeat again, beaten just a quarter length third-up and gets the chance to turn the tables stepping up to her preferred distance of a mile and a half this weekend.

Ciaron Maher’s four-year-old daughter of Myboycharlie is out to Tuesday Joy (2008) and the aforementioned Silent Achiever (2014) as the mare since Makybe Diva to win The BMW.

The other key The BMW Stakes entry is the Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young-trained Tavago coming off the Group 3 Sky High Stakes (2000m) win at the track a fortnight back.

The reigning ATC Derby winner relished the soft going that day for his big three and a quarter-length win and now chases the Sky High Stakes – The BMW double last completed by Hartnell (2015).
