Peter Snowden’s early favourite Long John was the big winner in today’s Caulfield Guineas 2013 barrier draw coming up with the inside alley for the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival classic this Saturday.

The son of Street Cry has been sitting top of the markets for the $1 million Group 1 BECK Caulfield Guineas (1600m) since their nice win in the Listed Henry Bucks Best Dressed Stakes (1400m) at Flemington early last month.
They retained favouritism for the Guineas too despite running third in the Prelude on September 29, and are still dominating betting after coming up trumps with barrier one.
Long John’s last start conqueror’s Éclair Big Bang and El Roca who ran one-two in the Prelude both also back up on Saturday drawing barriers four and two respectively.
New Zealand-trained col El Roca has been hitting headlines today after a sizzling piece of work at Caulfield this morning.
They ran over 1200m with Craig Newitt in the saddle impressing the hoop alongside the Mick Price-trained Dany The Fox, a Toorak Handicap runner this weekend, and impressed those watching with a smashing win.
It was fast work too as they clicked 22 seconds for the final 400m.
Statistically Phillip Stokes’ Adelaide visitor Éclair Big Bang however has the best chance of scoring an upset over the favourite as barrier five is the next most successful in the race over the past 30 years with five wins.
Last year’s winning barrier three, which All Too Hard jumped from, meanwhile belongs this year to the Gerald Ryan-trained Charlie Boy who is looking to become the fifth Caulfield Guineas winner from the gate since 1983.
Second favourite to win following Long John meanwhile is Prince Harada who has suffered an early blow drawing wide with barrier 12.
Other notable Caulfield Guineas hopes with wide draws then include Gai Waterhouse’s recent Group 2 Bill Stutt Stakes winner over the Moonee Valley mile Divine Calling (10), Stutt Stakes runner-up Shamus Award (11) and Peter Moody’s Golden Rose second placed Sebring colt Dissident (13).
