The bookies are rating just three of the nine fillies engaged in the Flight Stakes 2012 a chance this Epsom Handicap Day but below are the tips on the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival feature you really need.

Dear Demi is the Races.com.au tip to win the 2012 Flight Stakes
In the bookmaker.com.au markets for the $400,000 Group 1 Coolmore Flight Stakes (1600m), which is set to run as Epsom Race 6 at 3:20pm on Saturday, it is the Bart Cummings-trained Norzita ($3.50) and Clarry Conners’ Crown Oaks hope Dear Demi ($3.70) who are batting for top spot.
They are followed closely in the Flight Stakes odds by Gai Waterhouse’s unbeaten three-year-old Urban Groove ($4).
All three are very promising types.
Urban Groove is yet to taste defeat and is already a black type winner thanks to her victory in the Reginald Allen last Saturday at start number two.
Dear Demi boasts far more experience with 11 starts to her name including her second to Pierro in the Champagne and her recent Group 2 Furious Stakes success.
And Norzita is prepared by the best trainer of staying types in Australia, the legendary Bart Cummings, and she looks set to peak getting up to the mile for the first time after losing the Tea Rose Stakes on protest last time out.
But are these three the Races.com.au crew are tipping in our Flight Stakes trifecta? If so, what order should you lock them in at the bookies and, if not, where is the value at in the markets?
To save you time scrolling through the field and form earlier in the week Races.com.au published our exclusive 2012 Flight Stakes Form Guide Analysis & Betting Facts which we have based the below tips on.
To Win
#1 Dear Demi ($3.70)
- Boasts two black type wins including the Group 2 Furious Stakes which Streama won last year leading up to her Flight Stakes success
- Unlucky run in the Tea Rose last time out finishing fourth after getting caught up early
- Should get a better run a little wider from barrier 5 on Saturday
- Ace Kiwi hoop James McDonald retains the ride
- Getting up to the mile, which she won the Listed Fernhill Stakes over at the track during the autumn, is key
- One of only three fillies to win at the track and she is the only one with a mile win under her belt (2-1-1-0)
- Also prepared by a former Flight Stakes winning trainer (Clarry Conners)
To Place
#5 Norzita ($3.50)
- Had the run of the Tea Rose Stakes but lost on protest, some say unfairly
- She sees the 1600m for the first time here and is bred for longer so expect improvement
- Will have benefited from seeing Randwick last time and the two weeks between runs looks ideal
- Hugh Bowman rides for the first time, he’s a pro and she’s classy so should be a good duo
- Also gets the draw (barrier three) and is the early market mover
#8 Duet ($12)
- Expect them to get a nice run from gate 2 following their stablemate (Norzita) up as they did in track work earlier in the week
- Cummings wouldn’t have accepted if he didn’t rate them a place chance
- Come off a brilliant three length win at Kembla Grange over 1300m
- Step up in class and distance but is a daughter of Danehill Dancer from a Sadler’s Wells mare so mile should be no issue
Roughie We Like
#2 Longport ($11)
- It may have been on protest but they did still officially win the Tea Rose Stakes last time out over 1500m at this track against an almost identical field
- Drawn in gate seven but it’s a small field so gates should matter little
- Has the second best win rate of the field (60%) and second highest place percentage (80%) – even if those were boosted by the protest
