Clayton Douglas‘s resuming former The Everest champ, Giga Kick, will jump the short-priced favourite when he returns to racing at Morphettville this weekend in The Goodwood 2025 in Adelaide.

Rounding out the elite-level action of the Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival, this year’s Group 1 $1 million The Goodwood (1200m) has drawn a class field of 13 sprinters, and the money is on Giga Kick to kick off his latest prep in winning style.
The five-year-old son of Scissor Kick, best known for winning the world’s richest turf race as a three-year-old, will race for the first time since his mid-field finish in Flemington’s Group 1 VRC Champions Sprint last November.
It has been a while between drinks for the classy chestnut who hasn’t been first past the post since his success in the 2023 Doomben 10,000 in Brisbane.
That hasn’t stopped the punters however with Giga Kick sitting top of The Goodwood odds at Ladbrokes.com.au as the well-backed $2.20 top elect with Mark Zahra booked for the ride.
The second favourite occupying the next line of The Goodwood betting at $6 chasing a hat-trick is
Reserve Bank for Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr.
Jamie Melham, who rode last year’s The Goodwood winner Benedetta to victory, partners the in-form son of Capitalist with the three-year-old looking to be the first colt to win since Perfectly Ready back in 2006.
Since then, a further two three-year-olds have won The Goodwood with the fillies Lone Rock (2011) and Royal Merchant (2023).
Reserve Bank is unbeaten at the Morphettville track having won the Listed Redelva Stakes two back before his last start Group 2 Tobin Bronze Stakes success here on April 26 carrying 57.5kg to victory.
He is drawn well in gate nine and comes back to 54.5kg for his Group 1 test.
A further two The Goodwood contenders are currently under $10 for the win with the Anthony & Sam Freedman trained Ameena ($8.50) and Charm Stone ($9.50) who ran second and first respectively at the track and trip last time out in the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes.
Tassort filly Ameena was only a neck beaten in the showdown here for fillies and mares fresh and will take nice improvement presenting fitter for the run.
She boasts a strong second-up record (3:2-1-0), comes back in weight and has Dean Yendall coming aboard on Saturday.
Charm Stone, another runner from the Price/Kent yard, also resumed in the Robert Sangster with an impressive upset win and now chases a double last completed by Platelet (2013).
She had Zahra aboard last start but gets a good replacement rider for her second-up assignment with Ben Melham who chases his fourth The Goodwood winning ride this weekend.
The 2025 The Goodwood is set to run as Morphettville Race 8 at 4:00pm (ACST) / 4:30pm (AEST) on Saturday’s nine-race card.
