In-form Toowoomba galloper Soxagon heads the Glasshouse Handicap 2020 betting markets on the Sunshine Coast this weekend with money for the Mark Currie-trained four-year-old to continue his strong winter form.

The key act on the Winx Guineas Day program at Caloundra on Saturday, this year’s Listed $85,000 Glasshouse Handicap (1400m) field features 11 middle-distance sprint types following the early scratching of Fabulonh (7).
Drawn a treat in barrier five with the race’s two-time winning hoop Michael Cahill to ride, Soxagon dominates the Glasshouse Handicap betting markets at a current quote of $2.25 through Ladbrokes.com.au.
Cahill replaces Brad Stewart aboard Currie’s Rocker gelding and chases his third Glasshouse win 20 years following his previous success aboard Scenic Peak (2002) and Someday (2013).
A genuine 1400m horse boasting a strong record over the distance (7:2-3-1), Soxagon comes into Saturday’s Listed feature having won three of his past four starts.
The latest on June 27 was over 1350m at Doomben in a Class 6 set weights event carrying 58.5kg and he should be flying at his pet distance coming back to the 54kg minimum as he rises in grade for the Glasshouse.
It is an open market outside the well-weighted favourite with a further four runners under $10 Glasshouse Handicap odds including the $6 second-elect Deep Image.
The Robert Heathcote-trained Testa Rossa six-year-old is at the opposite end of the weight scale allocated the 59kg top weight and jumps from gate eight with Stephanie Thornton continuing her association.
Thornton has been aboard Deep Image for his past three runs all in much tougher company over the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival starting with the eye-catching second when narrowly beaten in the Group 3 BRC Sprint (1200m) in early May.
A third to Victorem in the Group 2 Victory Stakes (1200m) followed before his disappointing 16th when outclassed as a roughie hope in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m).
He has been freshened-up since his Stradbroke test and, despite a notable rise from 51.5kg in the Group 1, the drop back to Listed level puts Deep Image right in contention.
Heathcote chases his fourth Glasshouse Handicap victory in 2020 following back-to-back wins with Woorim (2010-11) and his third trophy in 2015 with Riva De Lago.
Fellow Brisbane galloper Krone ($6.50) for Tony Gollan, who won the race in 2014 with the heavily-weighted Alma’s Fury (59.5kg) is the next best in betting carrying 54kg from barrier two with Taylor Marshall in the saddle on Saturday.
Eurozone mare Krone has her first run at the Sunshine Coast this weekend continuing a strong first prep with Gollan, the four-year-old having previously been prepared in Melbourne by Mick Price & Michael Kent Jrn.
She has had four runs for Gollan and, while yet to win, has been racing in excellent form against her own kind including running only 1.3 lengths back fifth to Love You Lucy in the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1400m) at Eagle Farm.
Her last start produced an eye-catching second over the Doomben mile in the Group 3 Sapphire Stakes (1630m) behind Sure Knee and she should relish the drop back to 1400m and 54kg (from 57kg) taking on the boys in the Glasshouse.
The early Glasshouse Handicap market mover backed in from $9.50 to $7 is Special Missile in the outside alley, before Clare Cunningham’s Warwick Farm-trained Noble Boy ($8) rounds out the single-figure fancies.
Noble Boy is a dual acceptor for the weekend’s racing also still officially in the line-up for Sydney’s Listed $150,000 Winter Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill.
