The forecast in Brisbane is for a partly cloudy but otherwise fine day and without any chance of serious rainfall until early evening, the current Good (4) Eagle Farm track rating looks set to remain across the card.
Eagle Farm racing gets underway at 11:35am and the nine-race program continues through until the meeting’s marquee race closes the action with the Group 2 $175,000 Dane Ripper Stakes (1400m) due to jump at 4:35pm.
The 2020 Dane Ripper Stakes is a weight-for-age event this year and the field features 15 female gallopers after the early scratching of the Chris Waller-trained Sure Knee (14).
Waller chases a fifth win in the race and his third on the trot after the back-to-back wins by Red Tracer (2012-13) and Invincibella (2018-19), and even with Sure Knee out he is in the mix this year with Fiesta and Romani Girl.
Updated Dane Ripper Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au are led by the Dark Jewel Classic winner Irithea ($3.80) in barrier one with the dangers including last weekend’s Stradbroke Handicap graduates Outback Barbie ($6.50) and Winter Bride ($7.50).
Earlier in the day there are three other Group status features starting with Race 5 – the Group 3 $175,000 Tattersall’s Cup won last year by subsequent Melbourne Cup winner Vow And Declare.
The Tattersall’s Cup 2020 runs over 2400m and 10 stayers remain in contention following the withdrawal of Yulong Prince (3) who runs in Sydney’s Listed Winter Cup (2400m) at Rosehill instead and Romakash (2).
Usually it is the Queensland Oaks hopes racing in the Group 2 The Roses over 2000m, but without an Oaks in 2020 The Roses field runs over 1800m today in Race 7 with the 14 hopefuls led in betting by the flying Vanna Girl ($2.10).
Just before the Dane Ripper closes the card, the Group 3 Eagle Farm Mile (1600m) featuring 15 middle distance gallopers including $2.80 favourite Niccanova backing-up off a third in the Stradbroke takes place as Race 8.
