Following last Friday’s washout at Doomben the rescheduled 2019 Phelan Ready Stakes takes place in Brisbane on Wednesday and Rathlin is odds-on favourite to defeat just three rivals in the Magic Millions Classic lead-up.

After heavy rainfall drenched Doomben on Friday afternoon the club were forced to call off the final four races at the twilight meet.
That included the two Listed events for two-year-olds serving as qualifiers for next month’s $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) on the Gold Coast.
Both the $125,000 Listed The Spirit Of Boom Phelan Ready Stakes (1100m) and the $125,000 Listed Boomer Bloodstock Calaway Gal Stakes (1100m) were subsequently transferred to the Wednesday race meeting at Doomben.
In the Phelan Ready Stakes 2019 there were just six final acceptances and following two early scratchings from Canungra stable of Kacy Fogdon, just four juveniles remain in the mix.
Leading the Phelan Ready Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au at $1.80 and firming is interstate visitor Rathlin, a well-bred Fastnet Rock colt prepared by Ciaron Maher & David Eustace.
Rathlin remains a maiden after his opening two career starts, but only inexperience cost him the win last time out when narrowly beaten to run second in the $250,000 Magic Millions Clockwise Classic (1000m) at Ballarat.
Dropping from 58kg to 56.5kg in this week’s set weights clash over further distance in a much smaller field and Luke Currie’s mount will take the power of beating.
Success will also see the all-in price on Rathlin in the Magic Millions Classic 2020 betting markets firm with the up-and-comer at a current quote of $17.
Just one of the horses in the Phelan Ready Stakes field this Brisbane Summer Racing Carnival is a non-maiden with the Chris Munce-trained Kavak in barrier three.
Munce has a wonderful recent record in the race riding two winners as a jockey – Sir Luminar (2012) and Wicked Intent (2014) – before taking out his first as a trainer with Ours To Keep (2016).
This season he saddles-up Deep Field colt Kavak with the galloper having his third career run.
On debut Kavak won over 1000m at Eagle Farm before a last start second on November 27 over a shorter 900m distance at the Gold Coast carrying 58.5kg.
Jim Byrne continues his associations on Wednesday aboard the $51 Magic Millions 2YO Classic outsider who is paying $3.50 to beat Rathlin this week.
Following closely at $3.70 in Phelan Ready Stakes betting is the rails-drawn debutant War Memorial for Peter & Paul Snowden.
Another Fastnet Rock colt in the line-up, War Memorial has had two lead-up trials earlier in the year and has ability on Soft-rated tracks, which he is likely to see at the Doomben midweek.
Count The Coin ($13) rounds out the field and markets, the Kevin Kemp-trained son of the race’s namesake Spirit Of Boom looking a nice place chance at a price following an eye-catching fourth on debut at the track.
