Winner of the Listed Weetwood Handicap (1200m) at his home Toowoomba track in early April, Outback Prince five-year-old Jumbo Prince has had four subsequent wins without a winter win.
The latest over the weekend saw the smart stallion finish third behind the favourite Self Sense in the Listed Ipswich Cup (2150m), a race he placed second in last Queensland Winter Racing Carnival.
After that placing 12 months ago, Jumbo Prince went on to finish runner-up in the Listed Caloundra Cup (2400m) and then third in the Listed Grafton Cup (2350m) the following month.
He could have a change of plans this time in though featuring in the early entries for the $200,000 Group 3 Carlton Mid Tattersall’s Cup (2200m) on Tiara Day in Brisbane this weekend.
Tattersall’s Cup nominations have been extended until 9:00am (AEST) on Tuesday morning after Racing Queensland received just 14 original entries.
Also among those nominees are four from the Victorian stables of record breaking trainer Darren Weir.
Weir has nominated for last start Moonee Valley winner Gallic Chieftain, Viscount mare Tick Tick Bloom, his five-year-old Galileo mare I’ll Fly Away and dual Perth Cup runner-up Neverland.
I’ll Fly Away has had a lead-up Brisbane run when finishing an eye-catching fourth beaten only two and a half lengths by the winner Religify at Doomben as a $21 roughie in the Listed Wayne Wilson (1600m).
If accepted this weekend it will be a notable rise in distance, but she boasts winning form up to 2040m.
Neverland was also last seen racing at Doomben on June 10, the consistent daughter of Big Brown crossing a disappointing sixth behind Chocante in the Group 2 Brisbane Cup (2200m) with the Tattersall’s race shaping-up as an easier assignment.
The best out of the Brisbane Cup at the same track and distance two weeks back entered for the Tattersall’s Cup this Saturday is the Ciaron Maher-trained third placegetter Pemberley.
Darci Brahma five-year-old Pemberley improved on a Group 3 Premier’s Cup (2200m) sixth in the mud at Eagle Farm from late May finishing four lengths off the winner as a $17 shot in the Brisbane Cup.
Other notable Tattersall’s Cup nominees include Warhead mare War Baby who saluted over 2150m at Ipswich last weekend by six and a half lengths in a Benchmark 80 and the in-form Team Hawkes-trained Sydney raider Tucanchoo.
See below for the current Tattersall’s Cup 2017 nominations, the final field and barriers set for release on Wednesday followed by betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au.
