One of two black-type features on the card, this season’s $120,000 Listed Hilton Nicholas Straight Six (1200m) features 16 hopeful sprinters ready to line-up down the famous straight as Flemington Race 7 at 3:30pm (AEST).

Sitting top of the current The Straight Six odds at Ladbrokes.com.au despite a wide barrier 12 draw is Magnus five-year-old Malibu Style who has had just the one Flemington run to date.

Over from W.A., the gelding enjoyed a Listed Bel Esprit Stakes (1100m) victory two back at Caulfield defeating Legless Veuve by over two lengths as a $13 outsider.

Last time out he raced in a 1000m handicap at Flemington on May 6 and from gate 15 of 15 went on to finish just a quarter-length away second to Crystal Dreamer.

He is up in distance and down in weight this weekend and has already had for the win firming from $5.50 to $5 in The Straight Six betting markets.

There are five other single-figure fancies in the mix including the $6.50 second elect Ruettiger out in gate 15 for the Lindsay Park stable.

He won the Listed All Victorian Sprint Series Final (1200m) defeating Voodoo Lad over the track and distance last July and is after his first victory since.

The five-year-old son of Duporth hasn’t raced since his fourth in a Listed Flemington feature last Melbourne Cup Day, but is a first-up flyer tipped to put in a big effort in his resuming run.

Lindsay Park have a total of three The Straight Six hopefuls with Ruettiger ed by Mihany ($15) who carries the equal 58kg top weight and Tashbeeh ($12) in barrier two who are both also first-up this weekend.

Shorter in the markets are the likes of the Robert Smerdon-trained Commands colt Oak Door ($7.50) and Dash For Cash gelding Onerous ($8.50) for Team Hawkes.

Rounding out the chances under $10 for the win are Darren Weir’s last start Wangoom Handicap runner-up Stellar Collision ($8.50) and stablemate Thermal Current ($9.50) who is the other top weight under 58kg on Saturday.
