2024 The Everest Field Confirmed

The field is set for the eighth edition of the world’s richest turf race with our 12 The Everest 2024 horses vying for glory in the $20 million Randwick showcase sprint now locked in.

Heading the latest The Everest betting markets on the 1200m feature, which officially runs as a Group 1 race for the first time this year, through Ladbrokes.com.au is the Peter Moody & Katherine Coleman-trained I Wish I Win to be ridden by Luke Nolen.

2024 The Everest Field at a Glance

  • I Wish I Win is the narrow favourite
  • Bella Nipotina is one of five mares in the line-up
  • Ciaron Maher is the best represented trainer with three runners
  • Private Eye and Bella Nipotina are the oldest runners at seven-years-old
  • Private Eye races in his third The Everest after running 2nd in 2022 and 3rd in 2023
  • Growing Empire for Maher is one of four three-year-olds in the field
  • Lady Of Camelot is the sole filly in the mix
  • Kerrin McEvoy chases his fourth win aboard Growing Empire
  • Giga Kick (2022) is the only past The Everest winner racing again this year

Savabeel six-year-old, I Wish I Win, presents fit third-up after back-to-back Group 1 runs at The Valley including a third in the Ladbrokes Manikato.

The 2023 TJ Smith Stakes champ at the track and distance is after his first win since Brisbane’s Kingsford Smith Cup in the winter and there’s money for him to go one better than his narrow second to Think About It in the race last year.

Reigning The Everest hero Think About It is absent from this year’s The Everest field but Joe Pride‘s dually placed Private Eye is in the mix having run third in the trifecta in 2023.

Jay Ford takes the ride on the now seven-year-old son of Al Maher who comes off a sixth in the Group 2 The Shorts (1100m) from September 21.

The Shorts winner, I Am Me, has Nash Rawiller riding this weekend with Ciaron Maher‘s mare racing for The Star & Arrowfield.

To date no mare has claimed The Everest title but that could change with a strong contingent of female gallopers in the mix on Saturday.

Five mares led in betting by Bella Nipotina are out to become the first to win The Everest in 2024

The other mares in The Everest field this year are the fellow Maher-trained Bella Nipotina, Chris Waller‘s Thousand Guineas winner Joliestar, the Bjorn Baker-trained Stradbroke champion Stefi Magnetica coming off a second in The Shorts, and last start Group 2 Sheraco Stakes winner Sunshine In Paris from the Neasham/Archibald stable.

Of those, Bella Nipotina is the one most likely according to The Everest odds with the talented Pride Of Dubai seven-year-old third-up after placings in the Group 3 Concorde Stakes (2nd) and Group 2 Premiere Stakes (3rd).

Three Maher sprinters have secured a slot in The Everest 2024 with Bella Nipotina and I Am Me ed in the starting line-up by the well-ed Growing Empire.

Two three-year-olds have beaten home the older horses in The Everest results to date with Yes Yes Yes (2019) and Giga Kick (2022).

Growing Empire is being kept safe in the markets to be the next with the in-form Zoustar colt having won four of his six starts to date.

He was far from disgraced beaten a nostril-flare in the Manikato last time out and will relish the WFA conditions here.

The other three-year-olds are Godolphin‘s Golden Rose runner-up Traffic Warden, Storm Boy who was the final confirmed The Everest contender, and the sole filly in the line-up Lady Of Camelot who won the Golden Slipper as a two-year-old in the autumn.

Lady Of Camelot will be ridden by Rachel King, while Jamie Kah has the Traffic Warden mount with both jockeys looking to be the first female hoop to ride a The Everest champion.

Adding further depth and intrigue to what is sure to be another stellar edition of the popular slot race is the inclusion of the 2022 champion Giga Kick.

Mark Zahra partners the now five-year-old son of Scissor Kick whose lead-up run had him cross under a length fourth behind shock winner Airman in the $1 million Premiere Stakes.

The official 2024 The Everest barrier draw was revealed on Tuesday evening with Traffic Warden firming into top spot in betting after drawing barrier two.
