The in-form Ciaron Maher-trained Another Wil chasing a hat-trick from the inside alley heads betting on Saturday’s Toorak Handicap 2024 field to close the Caulfield Guineas Day card in Melbourne.

The last of the three Caulfield Group 1 races on the program is the $1 million Toorak Handicap (1600m) for potential Spring Cup horses and it is Another Wil who dominates the markets at Ladbrokes.com.au.

The consistent son of Street Boss was huge in the autumn winning the Doncaster Prelude before his seventh from out wide in the wet when far from disgraced in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Randwick.

This prep as a five-year-old he has gone back-to-back winning two Caulfield races with plenty of weight including the Listed Tessa Rossa Stakes (1400m) on September 21 by 1.5 lengths.

He presents in super order now full of confidence and rock-hard fit from the favourable inside alley for Michael Dee on 55kg.

Current Toorak Handicap odds at Ladbrokes.com.au list Another Wil to make it three straight at the track at $3.10.

Maher also saddles-up a second runner at the opposite end of betting with Light Infantry Man at $71 to upset his stablemate.

The danger meanwhile at $4.60 occupying the second line of the Toorak markets is the Tony Gollan-trained Queenslander Antino.

This horse comes off some excellent form lines running back-to-back thirds behind Mr Brightside and Pride Of Jenni respectively in the Makybe Diva Stakes at Group 1 level and Moonee Valley’s Feehan Stakes last start.

He was only two lengths off them in the Feehan at weight-for-age and will relish a drop back to 55.5kg here with Blake Shinn engaged for the ride.

The other single figure hopes in Toorak Handicap betting this spring are the Peter Moody & Katherine Coleman-trained 57kg topweight Desert Lightning ($7) and the airbone Craig ($7.50) to be ridden from the outside alley by Craig Williams.

Desert Lightning may be giving the weight away to his rivals but the bookies are taking no chances with the class Pride Of Dubai gelding.

The Kiwi expat has been strong over this distance (6:2-1-2), is a Group 1 New Zealand winner, and broke his Australian maiden in the Group 3 Sandown Stakes (1500m) showing plenty with 58.5kg back on September 28.

Craig has also been very good this prep with the British-bred Territories four-year-old having won her two back fresh before a second in the Sandown Stakes that could prove a strong spring form race.

The 2024 Toorak Handicap is scheduled as Caulfield Race 10 at 5:45pm (AEDT).
