Seventy-five weight-for-age hopefuls remain in the mix for the classic Group 1 $5 million Ladbrokes Cox Plate (2040m) following first acceptances for the Moonee Valley classic on October 26.

The Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival majors are fast approaching including the Australasian weight-for-age championship, the 2024 Cox Plate.
The event drew 137 nominations earlier in the season including 20 internationals.
That number has been cut to just 75 first acceptors with just two international raiders remaining in the mix.
Updated all-in Cox Plate betting markets at race sponsor Ladbrokes.com.au have Chris Waller‘s class, imported mare Via Sistina on top at an already short quote of $4.
Waller chases his fifth Cox Plate trophy with just his second horse following the historic four-peat of the might Winx (2015-18).
He has a total of 10 remaining Cox Plate entries in 2024 with his three-time Group 1 winning daughter of Fastnet Rock the one to beat following a first-up win in the Winx Stakes over 1400m with improvement to come.
Following closely in the Cox Plate odds as the only other current single-figure hope at $6 is one of the two raiders still in contention, the Mitsumasa Nakauchida-trained Prognosis from Japan.
Lys Gracieux won the Cox Plate for Japan back in 2019 and there’s money for Prognosis, a lightly raced seven-year-old son of Deep Impact with a great 2000m record, to be the next.
There are still 15 three-year-olds entered to take on the older horses including the likes of Storm Boy who won the San Domenico first-up and the well-fancied James Cummings-trained Broadsiding who claimed the Champagne Stakes – JJ Atkins Group 1 mile double as a two-year-old last season.
The Ladbrokes Cox Plate 2024 second acceptances are open until September 24.
