Waller chases his maiden Australian Derby trophy and also saddles-up his recent Group 1 Australian Guineas third place-getter Cap Ferrat ($15).
Occupying the second line of Australian Derby betting at $4.20 is the sole filly in the mix taking on the colts and geldings, the James Cummings-trained Zardozi.
The talented daughter of Kingman is out to be the first Australian Derby winning filly since Shamrocker back in 2011.
The Godolphin-raced youngster was excellent in the spring claiming victory in the Group 1 VRC Oaks (2500m), and she beat home the boys two back in Rosehill’s Group 2 Phar Lap stakes (1500m) by a good margin.
She is now on the quick back-up after running third to star NZ filly Orchestral in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) last weekend.
Jamie Kah comes aboard for the ride with the two girls drawn barrier two taking on the boys.
A further two runners are also under double-figures in ATC Derby betting with Zardozi’s Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes winning stablemate Tom Kitten ($5.50) coming off a close sixth only 1.59 lengths beaten in the Rosehill Guineas and the airborne Wymark ($7) considered the dangers.
Michael Freedman prepares local Savabeel gelding Wymark who is on a hot streak chasing win number five on the trot after stepping up to Group 2 grade for the first time last weekend in the Tulloch Stakes (2000m).
