Boogie Dancer Heads 2022 Thousand Guineas Field & Betting

Peter Moody’s Prelude winning filly Boogie Dancer is tipped to take out the Thousand Guineas 2022 at Caulfield this Wednesday and do the double for the first time since Irish Lights (2009).

A final field of eleven three-year-old fillies face off over the mile in this year’s Group 1 $1 million Schweppes Thousand Guineas (1600m) as the Caulfield Cup Carnival continues at the midweek meet.

Five fillies are currently under double-figures in Thousand Guineas betting at Ladbrokes.com.au with Moody’s daughter of Sooboog, Boogie Dancer, heading the markets at $3.50.

Drawn midfield in barrier six for jockey Luke Nolen, she comes off an outstanding win in the Prelude by over three lengths in the wet on September 17 and looks a huge hope to win again in her first run over 1600m.

Following closely at Thousand Guineas odds of $4.50 is Andrew Forsman’s Prelude third place-getter She’s Licketysplit drawn one closer to the fence in barrier five for her hoop Damian Lane.

The Kiwi expat is a nicely-bred daughter of Turn Me Loose who chases a second career Group 1 following a 1200m elite level victory back in March across the Tasman.

She’s Licketysplit was well-beaten with a big weight (59kg) in the Prelude in her Australian race debut on the Heavy (8) Caulfield track, but franked the form winning Flemington’s Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m) on October 1.

Proven at the mile, already a Group 1 winner and coming back to equal weights against Boogie Dancer puts the former New Zealander right in the frame for the Thousand Guineas trophy this week.

The other best in betting at $5.50 is the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained North Star Lass in gate two with the in-form Tim Clark in the saddle.

Waterhouse & Bott won the Thousand Guineas back in 2016 with Global Glamour who came off a lead-up Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) victory in Sydney.

The Sydney form has been holding up very well down south over the past few weeks and North Star Lass is looking to continue that on the back of her good Flight Stakes third behind Zougtocha at Randwick last time out.

Rounding out the hopes under $10 for the win are Peter & Paul Snowden’s rails-drawn Russian Conquest ($8) and the Chris Waller-trained Madame Pommery ($9).

Russian Revolution filly Russian Conquest hasn’t won since going back-to-back in her opening two career starts in the summer of 2021.

She caught the eye at Sandown on September 25 however in the Listed Jim Moloney (1400m) only a quarter-length beaten running fourth with 57kg ahead of this class test on Wednesday.

Madam Pommery meanwhile is another Flight Stakes graduate in the Thousand Guineas field having run sixth to her impressive stablemate.

The Thousand Guineas is set to run as Caulfield Race 8 at 5:05pm (AEDT) on Wednesday.
