The richest race on the Kingsford-Smith Cup Day card, this season’s Group 2 $1 million BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) features a line-up of 17 juveniles heading towards the Group 1 J.J. Atkins over the Eagle Farm mile on Stradbroke Day.
Despite a wide barrier 13 draw, it is progressive Spirit Of Boom gelding Prince Of Boom sitting top of the BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes odds at $4.20 through Ladbrokes.com.au.
He chases his third win from as many starts inside a month having only debuted at the Sunshine Coast on May 9 for a runaway five length win in the wet over 1000m.
Prince Of Boom rose notably in grade on May 15 heading to Doomben for the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m), run this year as the Spirit Of Boom Classic in honour of his sire, and was equally impressive.
Jockey Ben Thompson retains the ride having guided the horse to victory in both lead-up starts, the latest by 2.5 lengths after taking advantage of the inside alley.
Tactics will need to be a little different at Eagle Farm from a wider draw this weekend, but the bookies are taking no chances.
Occupying the second line of BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes betting this Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival at $6 is the Chris Waller-trained Ranch Hand drawn gate 11 with the in-form James McDonald to ride.
After a successful debut at Warwick Farm last December, the son of Fastnet Rock chases his first win since.
His latest run at the Gold Coast on May 8 saw him go down the barest of margins as the beaten favourite in the Group 3 Ken Russell Memorial Classic (1200m) that he is chasing atonement for him Brisbane this weekend.
The third elect is another widely-drawn hopeful in Port Louis (16).
