2021 Blue Diamond Stakes Field Confirmed: Enthaar Takes on Boys

Ciaron Maher & David Eustace’s undefeated filly Enthaar looks the one to beat in Saturday’s Blue Diamond Stakes 2021 field with the Golden Slipper favourite one of 16 two-year-olds accepted for the Caulfield feature.

The Group 1 $1.5 million Neds Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) drew a capacity field including five fillies taking on the colts and geldings in the autumn classic.

Fillies have won two of the past four editions with wins by Catcy (2017) and Lyre (2019) and markets suggest the very promising daughter of Written Tycoon, Enthaar, can be the next.

The bonny bay is two-from-two having won Randwick’s Group 3 Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) on debut to hit the headlines with a three-length success last October.

She franked that form first-up on her Melbourne leg with an equally powerhouse performance to salute in Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes (1000m) at Caulfield by over two lengths and looks suited to the step-up to 1200m on Saturday.

Enthaar, who is also leading futures betting on the Group 1 $3.5 million Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) in Sydney later in the autumn, has Mark Zahra continuing his associations in the Blue Diamond and comes back two kilos off her last start to 55kg.

The other standout filly in the Blue Diamond Stakes field this season is the also unbeaten Arcaded donning the Royal Blue of Godolphin.

The James Cummings-trained daughter of Street Boss made an immediate impact on debut in mid-January carrying 58kg to an over three length win at 1100m on the Caulfield track.

She backed-up from that at the start of the month when saluting in the Group 2 Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude at the same track and distance by two and a half lengths, and is now out to complete the double recently achieved by the aforementioned Catchy (2017) and Lyre (2019).

Blue Diamond Preview winning Rich Enuff filly Dosh meanwhile byed the Prelude with trainer Grahame Begg opting to keep her fresh for the Group 1 where she too will chase a hat-trick of career wins from as many starts having also won Flemington’s Group 3 Ottawa Stakes last November.

The Blue Diamond Prelude winner from the boys’ edition also backs-up in the big one on the weekend with airborne female jockey Jaime Kah chasing a fifth Group 1 success aboard the Mathew Ellerton & Simon Zahra-trained General Beau.

Kah celebrated a treble at Flemington last Saturday including guiding the Chris Waller-trained Australian Horse of the Year, Nature Strip, to victory in the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning.

She will be looking to continue her sensational season on Saturday at Caulfield riding the in-form Brazen Beau colt General Beau who comes off the Preview – Prelude double.

Godolphin meanwhile also saddle-up Frosted colt Ingratiating along with another Street Boss progeny, Anamoe, in this year’s Diamond field.

Ingratiating ran second to Enthaar in the Chairman’s Stakes before running again last weekend to salute with 59kg in the Listed Talindert Stakes (1100m).

He is on the quick back-up and rising in grade for the Blue Diamond, but comes back in weight and is the fit horse in the mix.

Anamoe took out the Listed Merson Cooper Stakes (1000m) second-up last preparation and was only beaten a short half-head in the Prelude by General Beau on February 6.

The Blue Diamond Stakes 2021 barrier draw will be announced later today.
