In-form jockey Jamie Kah was at it again on Saturday riding home the Liam Howley trained Midterm to win the Group 3 Manion Cup (2400m).
It was a brilliant second-up win for Midterm, who came through for Rosehill punters at $5.00 odds. Kah’s aggressive ride earned the Galileo gelding his fourth win from 17 career starts, but more importantly, a place in next month’s Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) at Randwick on April 13.

Kah chose to sit up on the speed on Saturday alongside the Bjorn Baker trained Rodrico. At the 1000m mark the pair quickened to lead the pack down the straight, while Midterm’s explosive turn of foot proved too much for race-favourite Shraaoh and the challenging Big Duke.
“We’ve had him a while, he hasn’t had much luck since we’ve had him, he’s run a lot of placings, hasn’t got his nose in front” staple representative Nick Williams said after the win.
“Jamie rode him beautifully today, gave him every chance, it was just a beautiful staying ride and she would’ve looked at home at Royal Ascot the way she rode that horse.”
Kah earned her first ever Group 1 win aboard Harlem in the Australian Cup earlier this month, and with wins across the country, Williams knew she was the right woman for the job on Saturday.
“She was just asked to get him in a rhythm and make the horse happy, and from the 1000m mark start improving and see what happened.
“She did a great job, the horse really relished the ground and hopefully, he pulls up okay and we can head back into the big city for the Sydney Cup.”
Midterm has now firmed from $21.00 into the $7.50 for the Sydney Cup. The full market can be seen below.
