Jarrod McLean captured his first Group 1 win last Saturday with Trap For Fools in the $2 million Mackinnon Stakes, and it appears the bright-eyed young trainer already has his sights set on bigger and better things for the five-year old.

The original plan was a spell following a lengthy Spring campaign that resulted in two wins from five starts, but after showing encouraging signs in the paddock, McLean thinks Trap For Fools is worth a trip to Perth’s Summer Carnival to contest the final Group 1 race of the year, the Kingston Town Classic (1800m).
“It makes sense to go back to Perth. The Kingston Town is a $1 million race and he’d start close to favourite” McLean told Racing.com.
Punters that jumped on Trap For Fools start at wide $25 odds with Ladbrokes enjoyed a wild ride during last week’s Mackinnon as the son of Poet’s Voice led from barrier to box to fight off $2.00 favourite Latrobe down the straight.
As McLean predicted, the gun run has seen his prized gelding open as the $5.00 favourite ahead of the Kingstown Town Classic on December 8.
“The original thought was to send him for a spell and target next year’s Australian Cup (2000m) in the autumn,” McLean went on to say.
Trap For Fools has enjoyed 12 career starts at Ascot winning 10 including the listed A.T.A Stakes over 2200m. But if all goes well in the Kingston Town in three week’s time, owner Geoff Evans thinks he could back up in the Ted van Heemst Stakes (2100m) a fortnight later.

Before claiming glory in his maiden Group 1 start last week, Trap For Fools transferred over from Lindsey Smith after posting six straight wins between October and December last year.
