Tasmanian trained filly Mystic Journey kept the punters happy with a systematic win in the Group 2 $200,000 Aquis Farm Fillies Classic (1600m) at The Valley today.

Trainer Adam Trinder’s pre-race plan went to order and Mystic Journey was able to settle just behind the pace after the widely drawn Fundamentalist crossed the field to set a steady pace.
Winning jockey Anthony Darmanin wasn’t happy with himself that he was caught three wide, Mystic Journey had an uninterrupted run and pounced on the leaders once heads were turned for home and raced to the finish line to score for the punters who sent her out as the $3.20 favourite.
The Lindsay Park trained Fundamentalist ($9) stuck to her guns in the straight to hold on for second while El Dorado Dreaming ($6) produced her trademark late finish to grab third spot.
Trainer Adam Trinder, who prepares his team at Spreyton outside of Devenport in Tasmania, wasn’t worried that Magic Journey hadn’t race for five weeks and was content to miss running in the Group 1 $500,000 Schweppes Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield two weeks ago after winning her previous start in the Listed $120,000 Jim Moloney Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on September 22.
Trinder said that Magic Journey would now be sent for a spell before mapping out an Autumn Carnival campaign.
“She was fantastic,” Trinder said.
“She was bred to get a trip and now that she is getting out to these trips and just get an easy mid sectional, she is fantastic late. She was strong and solid through the line.”
“While she was three deep without cover, she continued to build through the race and I grew in confidence the further they went.”
“We were more content to go the five weeks in between runs by design. We byed a Group 1 but we are more than satisfied with a Group 2 win on Cox Plate Day.”
“I think off to the paddock. She has done enough and we will head to the paddock and look to the Autumn with her.”
