The Lindsay Park Team are very happy with Vega Magic drawing a midfield barrier in the  Group 1 $1m Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

Vega Magic will jump from gate six in the eleven horse Memsie Stakes field with Damien Oliver sticking with the six year old after the pair combined for a first up win in the Group 3 $150,000 The Big Screen Company Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on July 28.

Veg Magic is aiming for back to back wins in the Memsie Stakes after Craig Williams steered the Lope De Vega gelding to victory twelve months ago.

Co-trainer Ben Hayes, who is one third of the Lindsay Park Team alongside of David Hayes and Tom Dabernig, said that Vega Magic has improved over the last year as he heads towards the first Group 1 race of the 2018 Melbourne Spring Carnival.

“We’re very happy with the barrier (six) and also the good track — The horse is flying,” Ben Hayes told the Herald Sun.

“He’s as good, if not better than last year.”

“He worked very well at Euroa on Monday morning and he gets down to Melbourne tomorrow.”

Vega Magic scored a brilliant all the way win in the Bletchingly Stakes with the blinkers on but the Lindsay Park Team has removed the blinkers and the six year old will race in the winkers again.

Hayes doesn’t expect Vega Magic to set the pace in the Memsie Stakes with noted front runner Jungle Edge expected to lead the field up.

Regular rider Kevin Forrester is again aboard Jungle edge who will jump from barrier five.

Kementari has arrived in Melbourne in great order following his fourth to Winx in the Group 1 $500,000 Winx Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on August 18 and the James Cummings trained stallion will jump from gate eight with Glyn Schofield in the saddle again.

Leading trainer Darren Weir will saddle up three runners in the Memsie Stakes, Black Heart Bart, Humidor and Kings Will Dream with all three coming off a last start run in the Group 2 $200,000 Sir John Monash P.B. Lawrence Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on August 18.

Kings Will Dream was the best performed in the P.B. Lawrence Stakes, flashing home for fourth ahead of Humidor and Black Heart Bart who finished eighth and ninth.

Humidor with Damian Lane in the saddle has drawn the best barrier at three with Black Heart Bart next to him in four with Brad Rawiller while Kings Will Dream has drawn out wide at eleven for John Allen.

Dwayne Dunn is certain to give the P.B. Lawrence Stakes winner Showtime the perfect run from gate two.
