Ladbrokes.com.au have the Darren Weir trained Sopressa and the Chris Waller‘s filly Savacool marked as the $5 equal favourites for the Group 1 classic for the three year old fillies on the first day of the Adelaide Festival Of Racing.
Sopressa is coming off a traditional Australasian Oaks preparation, winning her final lead up race by four and a quarter lengths for Harry Coffey in the Group 3 $120,000 Schweppervescence Stakes (1800m) at Morphettville on April 21.
Coffey has reported that Sopressa has pulled up in great shape and the filly worked well on Monday morning as she tunes up for the weekend’s assignment.
“I’m confident going into the race, I worked her on Monday and she’s definitely improved since the last run,” Coffey told racing.com.
“She seems to be a horse that keeps lifting to the level that is required and I have faith she’ll do the same again on Saturday.”
Sopressa has drawn the inside barrier in the fifteen horse Australasian Oaks field while Savacool, with Damien Oliver in the saddle, will jump from gate eleven.
Waller has stuck to the successful path that saw him saddle up Egg Tart to win last year’s Australasian Oaks and has brought Savacool to Adelaide via a win in a 1600m three year old Handicap at Caulfield on April 14.
On the third line of betting at $7 is the second of Weir’s three Australasian Oaks runners, Think Bleue, just ahead of the 2017 Thousand Guineas winner Aloisia at $7.50.
Weir’s third runner, Pleasuring, is at the double figure odds of $16 while Tony McEvoy’s two fillies, Bring Me Roses and Temple Of Bel are both marked at $12.
