2018 ATC Inglis Sires’ Aim for Fullazaboot

Well-bred but previous underrated colt Fullazaboot nearly scored the upset of the day at the Magic Millions Carnival at the Gold Coast and will now be aimed at a Group 1 autumn win in Sydney’s ATC Inglis Sires’ 2018 this April.

Last Saturday in Queensland the Stuart Kendrick-trained Sepoy colt from the Sunshine Coast jumped a $101 roughie in the Restricted Listed $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m).

Putting in a blinding effort fresh from the outside barrier (16 of 16) with Tye Angland aboard for the ride, Fullazaboot crossed two lengths second behind the saluting favourite Sunlight who charged home off a hot pace to win on way to the Golden Slipper Stakes 2018.

Angland was full of post-race praise for the luckless runner-up Fullazaboot who was one of those affected by the early interference caused by eventual fourth placegetter Ef Troop.

“I would love the see the Chopper shot today of the magic millions 2yo race, I believe the interference  cost Fullasaboot [sic] the win. We got the back was of it all. Massive run,” Angland wrote via his official Twitter on Saturday.

Kendrick confirmed his up-and-comer had come through the roughhouse edition of the Magic Millions Classic with no ill-effects and was currently in the paddock for a week’s rest.

“[He’s] in brilliant condition,” the Queensland told Racenet.

“To finish the way he did was amazing, especially considering he drew the widest and copped a fair bit of backwash from the interference.

“The jockey really felt he would have won if he hadn’t copped the interference and been able to settle a couple of pairs closer.”

Fullazaboot will now be aimed at an elite level race over the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival with Kendrick confirming plans to have his youngster firing on all cylinders for the Group 1 $1 million Inglis Sires’ (1400m) at Royal Randwick on April 7 during ‘The Championships’.

Currently all-in ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes odds are led by the Chris Waller-trained Breeders Plate winner Performer and Tony McEvoy’s Magic Millions Classic winning filly Sunlight.

Those two are also leading futures markets at Ladbrokes.com.au on the coveted Group 1 $3.5 million Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 24.

While not having officially ruled out the Golden Slipper for Fullazaboot, Kendrick said bying the world’s richest race for two-year-olds in favour of a “softer” run on a more suitable track in the ATC Sires’ could prove the winning move.

“We haven’t totally ruled out the Slipper but I think the Sires would be a perfect target for him as it is a softer race than the Slipper,” he said.

“I also think the distance of the Sires would be ideal for him, and I can see him really enjoying the big Randwick track.”
