Last year’s runner-up Scales Of Justice is tipped to go one better leading futures 2017 Kingston Town Classic betting on the Perth Group 1 running at Ascot Racecourse on December 9.

Last Perth Summer Racing Carnival, the Lindsey Smith-trained Scales Of Justice gelding Scales Of Justice won the Group 1 $1 million Railway Stakes (1600m) before a second to Stratum Star from the outside alley (15) in the Group 1 $1 million Kingston Town Classic (1600m).
Twelve months on and the Railway Stakes winner is one of a bumper 99 Kingston Town Classic 2017 nominations taken by Perth Racing for the weight-for-age summer classic.
Scales Of Justice leads all-in Kingston Town Classic odds at Ladbrokes.com.au on the early hopefuls paying $4.80 and sitting just ahead of the Darren Weir-trained Perth expat and weight-for-age specialist Black Heart Bart ($5).
A now five-year-old, Scales Of Justice was last seen running a first-up third in the Group 2 Lee Steere Stakes (1400m) beaten a quarter-length in a blanket finish as the beaten odds-on favourite form last Saturday.
Scales Of Justice will be better stepping out over more metres and is yet to finish out of the money at Ascot boasting four wins, three seconds and a third form eight starts at the track.
The danger looking at the futures Kingston Town Classic betting markets is the aforementioned five-time Group 1 champion Black Heart Bart for last year’s winning trainer Weir, the horse also Railway Stakes nominated.
Weir has nominated for six gallopers in the Kingston Town Classic 2017 including seven-year-old Black Heart Bart, originally from W.A., who hasn’t raced since a fifth when two lengths off Bonneval in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield on October 1.
Weir’s other Kingston Town Classic nominations are Burning Front, Chocolate Holic, Raw Impulse, Star Exhibit and Ulmann.
The bookies are also taking no early chances with Godolphin’s Doncaster Mile winner It’s Somewhat ($6) and the ultra-consistent Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained Supply And Demand ($9).
Sydney’s Chris Waller, of Winx fame, won the Kingston Town Classic back in 2014 with Moriarty and dominates this year’s entries numbers-wise with 14 entries.
Among the Waller contingent are last year’s Railway Stakes runner-up Good Project and perennial second placegetter Tom Melbourne coming off a Group 1 Kennedy Mile (1600m) second from Derby Day at Flemington.
Waller also prepares the Kennedy Mile winning mare Shillelagh who is another standout Kingston Town Classic entry looking to be the first mare to win since St. Clemens Belle (1999).
Of the local hopes the other best fancied is the Fred Kersley-trained lightweight Smart Missile colt Debellatio out to continue the good recent record of three-year-olds in the race.
From 2010 – 2016 three three-year-olds have beaten the older horses in the WFA Kingston Town Classic results most recently the filly Perfect Reflection (2015).
Debellatio has won three of his eight career starts to date, but is out to improve on his unplaced seventh in the Listed Fairetha Stakes (1400m) at Ascot last Saturday.
