Snitty Kitty runs race record to win Caulfield Sprint

Trainer Henry Dwyer has Group 1 aspirations for Snitty Kitty after the brilliant short course mare ran a race record in taking out the Group 2 $200,000 Harrolds Caulfield Sprint (1000m) at Caulfield today.

Apprentice Beau Mertens stalked the leader Super Too all the way from the jump to when heads were turned for home and then he let Snitty Kitty ($3.40 favourite) take control to record a two and a quarter lengths win.

The speedy Super Too ($7.50) fought on strongly in the straight for second after setting a hectic pace with Faatinah ($6.50) running his best race for a while to claim the third prize.

Dwyer said that Snitty Kitty didn’t show much in the early days but he will give her a break now and bring her back for the 2018 Melbourne Autumn Carnival for the Group 1 $500,000 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield.

“She is very good,” Dwyer said.

“Every step of the way we thought that she wasn’t much good. We paid a bit of money for her and we thought before she raced that she would probably not win a race.”

“She has gone to the trials, she has gone to the races and each race she has won a fillies race, a restricted race and steps up to a Group 2 and wins like she wins a restricted race and runs time.”

“She just keeps on getting the job done and who’s to say where the ceiling is.”

“She has done a pretty good job this prep. She is two from two. She is an immature mare, she is going to need more time so I wouldn’t mind tipping her out now and bring her back for the Oakleigh Plate in the Autumn.”

Dwyer said the he would be reluctant step Snitty Kitty up to 1200m and will keep her to the shorter sprint races in the future.

“I think she is a very dynamic 1000m, 1100m horse particularly around here (Caulfield),” Dwyer said.
