The early scratching of the now Coolmore Stud Stakes-bound Kiwi Summer age sees trainer Mick Price saddle-up two horses in the Group 1 $2 million Ladbrokes Caulfield Guineas (1600m) field with emergency Mighty Boss ($61) ing Holy Snow ($31) in the mile showdown this weekend

Both are untapped youngsters at a roughie’s price in Ladbrokes Caulfield Guineas odds through Ladbrokes.com.au, the markets for which are led by the Tony McEvoy-trained Royal Symphony ($4.20).

A winner of all four of his opening starts before the lead-up fourth in the Prelude, Domesday colt Royal Symphony is tipped to improve and become the seventh favourite in nine years to salute for the punters.

He is followed in Ladbrokes Caulfield Guineas odds by the filly Catchy ($4.60) out to make history as the first girl to win since 1976 and Godolphin’s last start Prelude third placegetter Kementari ($5).

#5 Showtime ($11)

As a rule roughie hopes don’t win the Caulfield Guineas, but there have been a couple in the past decade to salute around this price including Starspangledbanner ($13 in 2009) and All Too Hard ($12 in 2012). There’s no real standout this season and think that opens it up. Throw in the Team Hawkes-trained Showtime. The stable won last year with Divine Prophet and get a chance again with this last-start Group 2 Stutt Stakes winner. He is proven at a mile and gets the sweet run from barrier one, which produced last year’s winner as well as seven others (since 1983). Lots of value if you look around in the race this weekend. Gold Standard is just under double-figures but remains a bit of a forgotten contender coming off a non-traditional lead-up. The Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained Sebring colt won the Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) two back before the solid fourth behind runaway winner Trapeze Artist in the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m). The Caulfield track should suit if he goes the Melbourne way, and the past three Caulfield Guineas winners all came off the Stan Fox Stakes. He’s had the extra run so will be firing fit for the mile test, which he can handle.

#6 Royal Symphony ($4.20)

Favourite out to return to winning form after the Prelude fourth in the lead-up. Winkers come on to sharpen him up and that could be the big difference in a promising young galloper like this. Dwayne Dunn rode last year’s champ and sticks with this colt who has winning form already over the distance at Flemington as a two-year-old. He was working well late last time out and remains a key chance to get the job done for the punters.
