The Cranbourne Cup 2017 field has attracted one of the best line-ups this Sunday in recent years and it is an open affair in the spring lead-up from a betting perspective.

Set to run as the highlight of Sunday’s racing schedule in Victoria, the lucrative Listed $300,000 Cranbourne Cup (2025m) features a capacity line-up of 16 stayers plus an emergency in the Ken Keys-trained Spanish Reef (15).
In the latest Cranbourne Cup odds through Ladbrokes Caulfield Guineas Day card, feature five single-figure fancies currently led by international raider Folkswood ($4.80).
There has been a big early move on the Charlie Appleby-trained Exceed And Excel gelding who has been backed right in from an opening quote of $7.50 to win first-up from the wide barrier (15 of 16).
The consistent English visitor is yet to finish out of the money over the Cranbourne Cup distance back home and has some outstanding Group 1 European form lines, but hasn’t raced since early June.
Also at $4.80 for the win as the co-favourite in Cranbourne Cup betting is the also widely-drawn Lizzie L’Amour, stablemate to the flying Bonneval.
Bonneval is favourite for this weekend’s Group 1 Ladbrokes Caulfield Stakes (2000m) in Melbourne on way to Saturday week’s Caulfield Cup, which connections are also still hoping Lizzie L’Amour can qualify for.
Damien Oliver rides the Zabeel five-year-old for Cambridge trainers Murray Baker & Andrew Forsman as the mare looks to improve on her luckless last start sixth when under three lengths beaten by I Am A Star at The Valley in the Group 2 Stocks Stakes (1600m).
Third elect at $6 with Craig Williams to ride is the Anthony Freedman-trained Street Cry six-year-old Nozomi coming off back-to-back seconds at Flemington and Caulfield respectively.
He has winning form up to 2200m so will be better suited to the extra metres on the weekend after doing it tough from barrier 16 (of 16) last time out and drops weight getting in on the 54kg minimum.
The other single-figure Cranbourne Cup horses are Ecuador ($6.50) carrying the 59.5kg top weight and Cool Chap ($7.50) better weighted on 55kg.
It has been a solid spring so far for Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott’s veteran eight-year-old Ecuador who has finished in the money behind Winx and who was far from disgraced last time out when runner-up to Jon Snow in the Group 3 JRA Cup (2040m) on Moir Stakes night.
He does rise in weight again for this, but remains a chance drawn a treat in barrier three.
Cool Chap is drawn one close to the inside rails with barrier two, Regan Bayliss booked to ride the Lindsay Park-trained five-year-old who comes off a win over 1700m (defeating Nozomi) at Caulfield on October 1.
Of the double-figure fancies those with genuine claims include the Scott Brunton-trained Tasmanian galloper Count Da Vinci ($12) who won the Hobart Cup defeating Big Duke over 2400m in February and the Lloyd Williams-owned Our Century ($13).
Our Century has matched it with some nice types over the past 12 months including the third to Francis Of Assisi in last October’s Group 3 Bendigo Cup (2400m).
First-up this season he was right at the back of the Cool Chap race finishing four lengths back 14th, but failed to get a clear run in the straight and the extra metres and second-up form (4-2-1-0) suggest he can improve.
