In-form colt Viridine kept his undefeated record intact with a strong win in the Group 2 $300,000 Polytrack Roman Consul Stakes (1200m) at Randwick today.

The James Cummings trained Viridine ($2.25 favourite) made it four wins from four starts when he pushed up along the fence to record a two lengths victory over Single Bullet ($5.50) with the winner’s stablemate Beau Geste ($4.80) running an honest third.
Winning jockey Brenton Avdulla has now had two rides for two wins on the Poet’s Voice colt and is very impressed with his performance.
“He is a very talented colt,” Avdulla said.
“A horse with a ton of speed and he just has to harness his energy. As soon as those gates opened he just locked on aand again today I was in trouble for the first one hundred metres.”
“He was wanting to run through the bridle off a slow speed.”
“It wasn’t until they quickened up around the bend that he actually got into a rhythm but sure enough then I had to go.”
“He worked through up inside of them and he put paid to them very quickly at the two hundred and it was pretty soft late.”
“He obviously has a lot of ability but he can’t be doing these mistakes when he gets to the top grade.”
