Running as Rosehill Race 8 at 4:35pm (AEST) on the bumper nine-race card, this Saturday’s Group 2 $400,000 Golden Pendant (1400m) field is full of quality mares including the current $4.50 favourite Omei Sword.
She gets the rails run with Hugh Bowman to ride the four-year-old daughter of High Chaparral third-up, the mare out to improve on two unplaced runs this spring.
Her latest effort was a sixth when three lengths away at Rosehill a fortnight ago in the Group 3 Sheraco Stakes (1200m) and Waller said there were “no excuses” as she looks to atone in the Golden Pendant.
“There’s no excuses on Saturday,” he told Racenet.
“She’s drawn well, got a good jockey and the set-weights and penalties will suit so there shouldn’t be any excuses.”
If Omei Sword doesn’t show up again the biggest dangers looking at the Golden Pendant betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au are the firming Bjorn Baker-trained Bonny O’Reilly ($4.60) coming off a Sheraco Stakes fifth and the consistent Daysee Doom ($5) for Ron Quinton.
So will the best in betting get the job done or is there an upset Golden Pendant result pending from the likes of Daysee Doom’s stablemate Dixie Blossoms ($7) second-up after a fourth in the Theo Marks Stakes or even Denmagic ($13)?
1st
#4 Daysee Doom ($5)
In an open top-half of the markets, this super consistent Domesday five-year-old stands out. She hasn’t finished worse than fourth in over 12 months of racing and has racked-up some standout performances in this class over that time. Her Coolmore Classic fourth was impressive in the autumn when only 1.2 lengths off the winner and she won the Group 3 Dark Jewel Classic (1400m) in mid-May. Her record over 1400m is undefeated (2-2-0-0) and Rosehill holds no fears (6-2-1-2). Lead-up third in the Sheraco Stakes was a big fresh run, she’ll be improved off that fitness-wise and even from the wide draw (12 into 10), think is the one to beat.
2nd
#1 Dixie Blossoms ($7)
Tipping an all-Quinton quinella in the Golden Rose and rate Dixie Blossoms as a huge each-way chance. The Street Sense five-year-old was fourth first-up in the Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes (1300m) and her second-up record is strong (3-2-0-0). Was third to Foxplay in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) in the autumn only a length beaten and will enjoy getting up to 1400m here (4-2-1-0). Corey Brown retains the ride and she chases her first win since the six and a half-length romp home in the mud at Randwick in late February’s Group 2 Guy Walter (1400m).
3rd
#7 Bonny O’Reilly ($4.60)
Money is coming in for the early market mover Bonny O’Reilly and it is easy to see why looking at her record at Rosehill. She suffered her first ever defeat at the track from five runs last time out in the Sheraco when fifth, beaten 2.5 lengths from a wide gate (12 of 13). She is looking to return to form then with a better barrier (2). Winner up to 1350m so distance no query.
