Co-trainer Paul Snowden has confirmed the stable’s gun colt Pariah has come through his first-up win in terrific order and was all set for his Rosehill run this weekend in the 2017 The Run To The Rose.

The Group 2 $200,000 The Run To The Rose (1200m) is the key traditional lead-up to the Group 1 $1 million Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) back at the track a fortnight later and has produced the past five winners of the feature.
Out to do the double for a fourth year on the trot are two Team Snowden-trained stablemates with Pariah and Invader both set to face off with early 2017 Golden Rose Stakes favourite Menari on the weekend.
Of the duo, Snowden has his money on in-form Redoute’s Choice colt Pariah who atoned for a Golden Slipper failure (11th) in the wet back in March with a first-up Rosehill win on August 26 in the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m).
The Blue Diamond Stakes runner-up has progressed well since and shapes-up as a big danger for Gerald Ryan’s The Rosebud winner Menari in the Group 2 on Saturday after a solid Moonee Valley gallop this week.
“Pariah’s run the other day was exceptional, he’s come back in really fine order,” Snowden told Racing Victoria on Tuesday.
“He’s trained on lovely. I spoke to Dad [co-trainer Peter Snowden] this morning, he’s worked great again.
“Off the back of that first-up run, he’ll improve a helluva lot fitness-wise, which I think he has, and he’s going to be mighty hard to beat on Saturday.”
Futures Golden Rose Stakes 2017 odds online at Ladbrokes.com.au have Pariah as the $7 second elect behind Snitzel colt Menari ($5.50), but that order will be reversed if the former can win The Run To The Rose.
Pariah’s stablemate Invader is also second-up on Saturday and is another Snitzel progeny in the mix.
Invader proved his potential as a two-year-old at Royal Randwick winning the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) before a second as the beaten odds-on favourite behind The Mission in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) over the mile a fortnight later.
His return at Randwick produced a sixth to Deploy in the Group 3 Show County Quality (1200m) when defeated under two and a half lengths.
A $13 shot to win the Golden Rose Stakes later this month at his preferred distance, Invader has his maiden run at the Rosehill track on Saturday.
“He raced against the older horses first-up, that was to give him some weight relief,” Snowden explained.
“He gets the penalty for winning a Group 1, which he does again on Saturday.
“But he’s had that run under his belt. 59, 59.5 [kilograms] is a little bit easier than what he was going to carry before.
“So, I thought he ran extremely well against the older horses, he was finding the line the last 100m and taking ground off them, and they ran really quick, slick time on the day.
“I think you’re going to see him better once he gets to 1400m, but it’s another stepping stone to get to the Golden Rose, and he’s coming up very well.”
