Set to run as Race 5 at 2:50pm (AEST) on Memsie Stakes Day, this season’s Group 3 $150,000 Ladbrokes Cockram Stakes (1200m) has drawn a final field of 13.
Clear favourite in the latest Cockram Stakes odds at race sponsor Ladbrokes.com.au is the resuming Lindsay Park-trained Fuhryk ($2.70).
A winner of five of her nine career starts to date, the daughter of Star Witness steps out as a four-year-old for the first time looking to make it two-from-two at Caulfield where she won the Group 3 Kevin Hayes Stakes (1200m) back in February.
She was last seen running in Adelaide during May where she enjoyed a Group 2 second and a win in the Group 3 Proud Miss Stakes and looks the one to beat fresh with the right run from barrier three with Craig Williams aboard.
No other mare comes close according to the bookies with the only other single-figure fancies in Ladbrokes Cockram Stakes betting being the 58kg top weight Savanna Amour ($8) and Miss Cover Girl ($8) with the outside barrier to overcome.
Love Conquers All four-year-old Savanna Amour is prepared in Brisbane by John Meagher but has plenty of Melbourne four leading into her second-up run of the season.
She has form around Fuhryk having run third in the Kevin Hayes Stakes before her Group 2 Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m) victory at Caulfield on Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes Day.
During the winter, she took out the Gold Coast Guineas back in Queensland and is out to atone for her first-up seventh when nine lengths beaten by Ability on August 6 in the Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes (1200m).
Savanna Amour was beaten by a mud track in that race, which featured Lankan Rupee (3rd), but will need to be at her best giving the weight away on the weekend.
Miss Cover Girl also needs luck from the jump with the now Darren Weir-trained six-year-old drawn barrier 13 of 13 with Luke Nolen to ride.
Saturday marks the former Queenslander’s first run since being transferred to Weir in Victoria and she jumps at Caulfield for the first time.
Her latest start was a seventh when only four lengths beaten as a $51 roughie in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1350m) and she goes well fresh.
If Fuhryk doesn’t show-up first-up there could be value galore in this year’s Cockram Stakes.
Notable chances at double-figures include stablemate to the favourite Sullivan Bay ($10) coming off a 1100m win at the track a fortnight back, Weir’s Sandown Guineas placegetter from last season Jennifer Lynn ($11), and the rails-drawn Lyuba ($12) who also represents Weir and who has run second four times from five Caulfield starts to date.
