With Golden Slipper placed filly Tulip withdrawn and racing in Melbourne instead, this year’s Group 3 $150,000 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) field is down to nine hopefuls.

The latest San Domenico Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au feature four single-figure fancies dominated by the firming Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Pariah ($2.50).

The Group 3 winner and Blue Diamond Stakes runner-up debuts as a three-year-old here racing at the same track and distance he took out the Canonbury Stakes at on debut.

Big spring plans for this untapped sprinter could include a run in the $10 million The Everest field and it is unsurprising to see him leading the markets for this.

The danger according to the bookmakers occupying the second line of San Domenico Stakes betting at $5.50 is the Gerald Ryan-trained Condor Heroes.

So will Pariah get the job done for the punters or is there an upset San Domenico Stakes result pending from the likes of the stablemate Taking Aim ($11) or Godolphin’s lightly-raced filly Jorda ($6) racing for the first time since taking out the Gimcrack Stakes on debut last October?

Our 2017 San Domenico Stakes Trifecta Tip is #1 Pariah from #9 Madeenaty and #2 Taking Aim

1st

#1 Pariah ($2.50)

This Group 1 placed colt is short-priced for a reason and too hard to up. Spring aims include the Golden Rose, the Caulfield Guineas or the Coolmore Stud Stakes so the stable are expecting big things. Forget the Slipper failure, his trials have been red hot including splitting Winx and Happy Clapper for a second last heat. He is a genuine first-up performer having won a Group 3 at this track and distance on debut and can break the drought with another win fresh here.

2nd

#9 Madeenaty ($7.50)

Lindsay Park took Tulip to Moonee Valley and left this filly in Sydney, so obviously they expect her to be competitive at Rosehill. Winner of the Wyong Magic Millions Classic, this daughter of Exceed And Excel also caught the eye when third in the Gold Coast Magic Millions Classic in January. She is another Slipper failure looking to atone for an unplaced run in that Group 1 contested on a Heavy (10) track. Has the fitness edge with a smart second first-up at Flemington in a handicap over 1000m. Will be improving at 1100m and is a genuine danger.

3rd

#2 Taking Aim ($11)

Nice double-figure quote for the other Team Snowden runner in the race who can finish in the money despite being better suited to more metres. From two 1100m runs this Choisir colt has two

second place finishes and he was runner-up in a Group 3 at the Gold Coast over 1200m when he resumed last time in. Two Brisbane placings followed over the winter including the Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m) third at a mile. Only trialled mediocre at Randwick at 740m on August 8, but will be better under race conditions over a little extra distance on Saturday.
