Menari ($3.10) remains an outright favourite in 2017 The Rosebud betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au despite drifting, ahead of Siege Of Quebec ($3.20) and Godolphin runner Trekking, who has firmed onto the third line and is currently available at $4.40 odds.

Will Menari justify favouritism and win The Rosebud, or will one of his talented rivals post an upset in the feature race?

1st

Diamond Tathagata ($11)

Diamond Tathagata is a Group 2 winner, a proven first-up performer and is over The Rosebud odds at his current $11 quote. Second behind She Will Reign in the Inglis Nursey (1000m) on debut, the Hinchinbrook colt resumed this year for a smart win in the Group 2 Skyline Stakes (1200m). Finishing a credible seventh in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) on March 18th, Diamond Tathagata failed to fire in his most recent start, but won a talent-rich Randwick barrier trial on July 24th, which included Winx. He has been charged with carrying 60.5kgs, but is one of the class runners in this field and is drawn ideally in barrier 6.

2nd

Siege Of Quebec ($3.20)

Siege Of Quebec is yet to make an appearance amongst black type company, but has been outstanding in his two career starts to date and should be right in the finish of The Rosebud. Debuting for a comfortable win at Newcastle on June 27th, the Fastnet Rock colt took up the running in his city debut at Rosehill on July 15th and produced a smart kick in the final straight to beat Calculated by half a length. He should have little issue finding the early speed from the rails draw and will be partnered by in-form hoop Tim Clark.

3rd

Trekking ($4.40)

Trekking has shown good ability through a short racing career and will have conditions to suit first-up in The Rosebud. A comfortable winner of the Schweppes Plate (1100m) on debut at Rosehill on December 3rd, Trekking resumed this year for a close second in the Group 3 Black Opal Stakes (1200m) before a luckless run in the Golden Slipper. The Street Cry colt has trialled well in the lead-up to this race and should have enough to finish in the first three.
