Seaburge Impressive Ahead of Spring Carnival Campaign

David Hayes is excited by the pending return of Seaburge in spring, after the rising four-year-old completed another impressive jump-out at Flemington on Friday.

Unlucky not to have posted a maiden win at the highest level of racing, Seaburge was settled within the classy group of gallopers, before producing a smart turn of foot and good times throughout the latter stages of the trial.

Hayes has been thrilled with everything that the Sebring colt has produced in the lead-up to his Spring Carnival campaign and is confident that he is returning to the form that heralded plenty of outstanding results during last year’s Melbourne spring.

“He probably excited me more than any of the others this morning,” Hayes told Racing Victoria.

“He really exploded from the 800 to the 1000 and he looked like a horse whose spring form is back. He was beaten a head in the (Caulfield) Guineas and a head in the Mackinnon (Stakes).

“I’m hoping he’s a weight-for-age horse.”

Seaburge resumed last spring for a smart fourth in the Group 3 McNeil Stakes (1200m), before running fifth in the Listed Express Room Stakes (1400m) a fortnight later.

Working to the line well to finish fourth behind Group 1 winner Sacred Elixir in the Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m), the colt out of Polska flew home to finish second in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m), but could only manage a mid-pack finish in the Group 1 Cantala Stakes (1600m).

Undoubtedly at his best when second amongst open company in the Group 1 Emirates Stakes (2000m) on November 5th, Seaburge failed to come up during the Autumn Carnival this year; finishing sixth in the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) most notably.

A specific path and target is yet to be set for Seaburge this time in, but he is currently considered a $101 shot in early 2017 Cox Plate betting markets with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au.
