Trainer Brendan McCarthy is confident that Murt The Flirt is primed for another big performance when he takes his place in Saturday’s Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes field at Caulfield Racecourse.

Murt The Flirt has been a notable performer throughout his entire racing career so far and will line up in the Bletchingly Stakes field with a commendable record of four wins and seven minors, through his twenty-two competitive starts.
Resuming in the Group 3 Sir John Monash Stakes a fortnight ago, the Murtajill gelding was settled at the tail of the field by jockey Chris Symons, but produced a big turn of foot in the final straight to run on for third behind Supido and Daytona Grey.
McCarthy told AAP that the horse has only improved off the run and should enjoy a step up in distance and the Caulfield conditions once more in the Bletchingly Stakes.
“If he had drawn a barrier (in the Sir John Monash Stakes) I reckon he would have gone close to nearly winning,” McCarthy said.
“He jumped really well and then was going to get caught wide so he (Chris Symons) elected to go back.
“He picked up nice ground in the straight and pulled up beautifully so we push on to the Bletchingly.”
A prove second-up performer, Murt The Flirt resumed in the spring of 2016 for third in a Pakenham 1200m sprint, before posting a strong and impressive win in the Movenpick Ice Cream BM84 (1400m) at Caulfield.
Finishing mid-pack in the Off The Track Subzero Challenge (1400m) for greys before being sent for a freshen-up, Murt The Flirt clearly needed a run when he beat only one horse home in the Listed Christmas Stakes (1200m), but responded with a big performance for third in the Magic Millions Sprint (1200m) on January 14th.
The 2017 Bletchingly Stakes field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
