Felines Leads 2017 July Sprint Betting

Only seven runners remain in contention for Saturday’s July Sprint (1100m) at Royal Randwick, but the depth of talent confirmed means that it is an open race from a betting perspective.

Felines has produced a number of strong performances and results for Kris Lees this year and has firmed into outright $3.40 favouritism in 2017 July Sprint betting markets with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au.

Felines resumed this year for a credible fourth behind the likes of English and Redzel in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m) on March 4th, before running a credible fifth in the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) a fortnight later.

Returning to winning from in the Hawkesbury Gold Rush (1100m) on April 29th, the Conatus mare placed fifth following a tough run in transit in the Listed Ortensia Stakes (1100m) on May 13th, before again running fifth in the Listed June Stakes (1100m) last time out on June 10th.

Hugh Bowman returns to the saddle and should find a good position close to the pace from the rails draw on Saturday.

That’s A Good Idea and Reldas have both received steady in 2017 July Stakes betting markets and remain tied on the second line at generous $5 quotes.

That’s A Good Idea has not been seen at the races since late April, but generally flies fresh and should enjoy the conditions of the July Sprint.

Having settled towards the tail of the field in the Hawkesbury Gold Rush, the Flying Spur gelding mustered a smart turn of foot to run on for second behind Felines.

The horse has been charged with overcoming a race-high 61kgs, but is drawn ideally in barrier 3 with Tye Angland in the saddle.

Reldas went amiss last time out, but arguably steps back in class into this field, is drawn well with in-form hoop Corey Brown in the saddle and represents terrific value to punters at current odds.

Reldas ran fourth in the Listed Bob Hoysted Handicap (1000m) on March 4th, before working to the line well for second behind Bassett in the Listed Abell Stakes (1200m) a fortnight later.

Resuming from a freshen-up for second in the Group 3 DC McKay Stakes (1100m) on May 6th, the Testa Rossa gelding placed seventh in a Moonee Valley sprint over 1200m last time out on June 17th.
