Scheduled as the penultimate event on the nine-race Flemington card on Saturday, this season’s $150,000 Listed All Victorian Sprint Series Final (1200m) has drawn a field of 12 sprinters.
Heading the line-up and the weights with 60kg is the in-form Lindsay Park-trained Tashbeeh who has drawn barrier one with apprentice Jordan Childs to ride.
Childs was aboard the five-year-old Commands stallion last start back on May 20 when Tashbeeh enjoyed a three-quarter length win in the Listed Straight Six (1200m) as a $17 outsider in betting.
From 11 runs at Flemington the horse now boasts four wins and four thirds, but he has his work cut out for him this weekend under the top kilos.
Trainers David & Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig have also accepted for stablemate Ruettiger in the All Victorian Sprint Series Final field, the Duporth gelding coming off a third to Lord da Vinci over the distance at Moonee Valley on June 17.
That followed his 10th to Tashbeeh in the Straight Six, the five-year-old’s fifth Flemington run where he also finished fourth in last year’s Group 3 Aurie’s Star Handicap (1200m0 and the Listed MSS Security Stakes (1200m) on Melbourne Cup Day.
Along with Tashbeeh the only other last start winner in the mix on Saturday is the Robert Smerdon-trained Ability chasing a third win on the trot this time in.
Drawn gate nine with Dwayne Dunn to ride on the 54kg minimum, the progressive Reward For Effort four-year-old saluted first-up over 1000m at Moonee Valley before a narrow success over 1100m at Flemington defeating Husson Eagle on June 24.
Ability is back going up to 1200m third-up and looks set to peak making his black-type debut at career start number 15.
Husson Eagle is out to turn the tables on Saturday also accepted for the Final showdown, the Patrick Payne-trained five-year-old yet to win over further than 1100m over his 27 career runs.
The local training duo of Matthew Ellerton & Simon Zahra saddle-up Wanted five-year-old Rough Justice in the race from barrier 10, the galloper third-up on the back of two nice placings this prep.
His latest run produced a close third when under a length beaten by Ability (1st) and Husson Eagle (2nd) here late last month.
