The Virginian heads up the nominations for the 2017 Eye Liner Stakes

Gold Coast sprinter The Virginian heads up the thirty nominations for the 2017 Listed $175,000 City Of Ipswich Eye Liner Stakes (1350m) at Ipswich on Saturday.

The Virginian failed to gain a start in last Saturday’s Group 1 $1.5m Stradbroke Handicap (1350m) at Doomben after being listed as the first emergency but his form before that would make him one of the top chances in the Eye Liner Stakes.

The Virginian resumed for a resounding first up win in the Listed $100,000 IPG Marketing Solutions Chief De Beers (1050m) at Doomben on May 20 and then ran fourth to Deploy in the Group 2 $175,000 Ascot Green Moreton Cup (1200m) at Doomben on June 3.

The Toby Edmonds trained four year old showed that he had plenty of potential with an eye catching third in the 2016 Stradbroke Handicap and the Gold Coast trainer has also nominated Better Land for the Eye Liner Stakes.

The Desleigh Forster trained Too Good To Refuse ran a mighty race last Saturday when he flashed home to go down narrowly to Miss Gunpowder in the Listed $100,000 Makers Mark Hinkler Handicap (1200m) at Doomben and will be hard to beat if he goes around in the Eye Liner Stakes.

Randwick’s Team Snowden has nominated two sprinters for the Eye Liner Stakes, three year old Acatour and the well performed Snippets Land.

Acatour hasn’t raced since finishing eighth to Mongolian Wolf in the Group 3 $150,000 Mostyn Copper Group Frank Packer Plate (2000m) at Randwick on April 15 but was a winner at his previous start in the Group 3 $200,000 Chine Horse Club Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on April 1.

Snippets Land has had two runs this preparation and wasn’t disgraced last start when fifth to Deploy in the Moreton Cup.

The all-powerful Godolphin stable who won last Saturday’s Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap with Impending, have entered two sprinters for the Eye Liner Stakes, Federal and Handfast.

Federal and Handfast are both coming off a last start runs in the Moreton Cup, finishing seventh and ninth respectively.

The Matthew Dunn trained four year old Perfect Dare is a promising sprinter who will be one of the main chances in the Eye Liner Stakes coming off a last start third in the Moreton Cup while stablemate Strawberry Boy is also among the nominations.
