2017 Bill Carter Stakes Field & Odds: Pretty Fast Firming Favourite

Peter & Paul Snowden’s filly Pretty Fast may have had just the one career start to date but she is the firming favourite in Bill Carter Stakes 2017 betting for her black-type debut at Doomben on the weekend.

Due to run as Race 2 at 12:47pm (AEST) on Saturday’s Queensland Oaks Day card moved from Eagle Farm to Doomben, the $100,000 Listed JRA Bill Carter Stakes (1200m) field is down to 13 two-year-old fillies after the early scratching of Cabin Fever (11) and Danzon (14).

Updated Bill Carter Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au have Team Snowden’s untapped daughter of Not A Single Doubt Pretty Fast as the $4.60- favourite, in from $5, with Hugh Bowman booked for the ride.

On debut she finished under a length away third over 1100m at Wyong on May 16 and the money says she’ll be better over 1200m as the expensive $650,000 yearling buy from last year’s Gold Coast Sales looks to live up to her price tag.

In an open market on the race for juvenile fillies, the second line of Bill Carter Stakes betting has three at an equal quote of $5.50 with Cellargirl, Skate To Paris and Black Mink drawn alongside each other in barriers two – four respectively.

Kelly Schweida’s locally-trained More Than Ready filly Cellargirl is first-up on the weekend in her maiden start since finishing dead last (16th) to Houtzen in the Gold Coast’s $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) in mid-January.

She has won a recent Doomben trial ahead of her return and James Orman has the mount on the weekend.

Skate To Paris should be hitting peak form here following a number of good recent runs from the Chris Munce-trained daughter of Bradbury’s Luck.

Her latest run on May 20 produced the close second behind Pardoe in the Listed Oxlade Stakes (1200m) run on a Heavy (9) track at Doomben and she returns to the same course and distance here with Larry Cassidy in the saddle once more.

Black Mink is chasing successive wins, the well-bred Lonhro filly having saluted by a runaway four length margin over 1000m at Eagle Farm at the start of May as a $21 roughie.

Prepared by Liam Birchley, this weekend Black Mink steps-up to the 1200m for the first time and should run out the metres.

She has Jeff Lloyd coming on for the black-type test and will need to be improving as she comes up from 52.5kg last start to the 56.5kg at set weights in the Bill Carter Stakes.

Rounding out the single-figure fancies in the typically open two-years-old race is then the rails-drawn She’s Our Star ($8).

Tony Gollan’s Star Witness filly is second-up and coming back in class after a tough run for ninth behind Tangled on May 13 at the track in the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m).
