Nancy Tops 2017 Silk Stocking Field & Betting

Sydney’s Peter & Paul Snowden training team could be in for a huge day at the Gold Coast this Saturday in Queensland including saddling-up the favourite Nancy in the Silk Stocking 2017 field.

One of the key black-type acts on the card headed by the AD Hollindale Stakes, this year’s $150,000 Listed Silk Stocking (1200m) is scheduled to run as the Gold Coast Race 6 at 3:00pm (AEST).

The field is down to 15 runners after two early scratchings and the latest Silk Stocking odds at Ladbrokes.com.au have the consistent mare Nancy as the $4 favourite.

A five-year-old daughter of Big Brown, she is drawn a treat in barrier two with Hugh Bowman booked for the ride.

Nancy races for the first time since her third in the Group 3 Birthday Card Stakes (1200m) in the wet at Rosehill on March 18 and will come into this easier assignment fresh with a perfect run pending from the favourable alley.

Two gallopers are equal second elects on the second line of Silk Stocking betting this Queensland Winter Racing Carnival with Elegant Composure ($6) and the flying Invincible Express ($6) out to extend a lengthy winning streak.

Eagle Farm’s Chris Anderson saddles-up Bradbury’s Luck mare Elegant Composure for the first time in 2017, the five-year-old last seen finishing under a length and a half away fifth in the Listed Nudgee Quality (1200m) on New Year’s Eve.

She enjoyed a winning Deagon trial last month leading up to her return and is undefeated first-up (3-3-0-0), plus is at her pet distance boasting four wins from five previous 1200m runs including black-type success at home last November.

The David Vandyke-trained Invincible Express has won her past five starts on the trot including a first-up win at Ipswich in easier company on April 19.

She has previous Class 3 winning form at the Gold Coast track, but is as yet untested in stakes company or over the 1200m so faces a number of tests this weekend in the Silk Stocking.

The last of the runners at single-figures for the Silk Stocking win this season are Girl Sunday ($9) drawn well in gate three and Nudierudie ($9.50) out to improve second-up with Christian Reith riding.

Sydney’s Gerald Ryan has Encosta De Lago four-year-old Girl Sunday kicking off her new season campaign, the mare last seen finishing fourth over 1400m at Warwick Farm in early January.

The Team Hawkes-trained Nudierudie is another interstate visitor chasing the sunshine state riches over the winter, the fellow four-year-old Encosta De Lago mare last seen finishing just two lengths away fifth over 1200m at Randwick on April 15.

Other notable chances at more generous prices include the returning Magic Millions Day winner at the track Madotti ($10) and the Toowoomba-trained Sold For Song ($11) both with outside alleys to overcome.
