Queensland Derby Hopes Confirmed in Gunsynd Classic Field

Ten three-year-olds targeting the Group 1 Queensland Derby will chase black type success at Eagle Farm on Saturday following the completion and release of the 2017 Gunsynd Classic final field and barrier draw.

Dreams Aplenty has returned to racing in excellent form this season and has drawn ideally into the 2017 Gunsynd Classic field in barrier 2.

Stamping himself as one to watch through an impressive two-year-old campaign last winter, Dreams Aplenty finished a close second behind Attention in the Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) before placing fifth in the Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m).

Having resumed this time for a close second in a Doomben minor over 1200m on February 25th, the Dream Ahead gelding has won each of his three most recent starts, including the Toowoomba Guineas (1625m) last time out.

Spring Tycoon finished second behind Dreams Aplenty in the Toowoomba Guineas and has also been confirmed to take his position in the 2017 Gunsynd Classic field.

Spring Tycoon has furnished into a strong three-year-old and should carry plenty of improvement into the Gunsynd Classic and a second attempt at 1600m.

Unable to quite match it with Queensland’s best runners as a two-year-old, Spring Tycoon took benefit from his first two runs over 1200m upon resuming this time, but has continued to improve upon stepping up in distance.

Second in the [email protected] Handicap (1400m) on March 13th, the Written Tycoon colt savaged the line in the Toowoomba Guineas last time out and finished only a head behind Dreams Aplenty.

Veteran hoop Damian Browne retains the ride on Spring Tycoon, who could very well receive the run of the race in the Gunsynd Classic from barrier 3.

Gary Moore has confirmed that he will saddle stable star Takedown in the featured Group 2 Victory Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday and the trainer will also have a Gunsynd Classic representative in Kunming (barrier 6).

Yet to break through for a race win through his six career starts, Kunming has produced his best on good racing surfaces and should perform well amongst this field in the Gunsynd Classic.

Placing fifth in each of the Tassal Salmon Maiden Plate (1500m) and Meet Restaurant Maiden (1600m) through March, the More Than Ready gelding was unable to handle the heavy going when seventh in the Group 3 Frank Packer Plate (2000m) last time out on April 15th.
