Tulloch Stakes 2017 Betting Tips & Update

A line-up of ATC Derby hopefuls take to the Rosehill Gardens track in the wet on Saturday for the 2017 Tulloch Stakes, betting tips and the latest odds on the showdown found below.

Running as Race 5 at 2:50pm (AEDT) on The BMW Day, this year’s $200,000 Group 2 Tulloch Stakes (2000m) field is down to twelve three-year-old colts and geldings with updated odds at Ladbrokes.com.au led by the Kiwi Jon Snow ($2.90).

With a Heavy (10) track at Rosehill on Friday and similar conditions expected for the weekend, all Rosehill tips are on proven mudlarks.

This galloper has seen Heavy and run second through it, plus was third in the Group 1 NZ Derby (2400m) last time out.

That form held down under with Gingernuts completing the NZ Derby – Rosehill Guineas double and the money in Tulloch Stakes betting says Jon Snow can continue the trend this weekend.

What stops the Kiwi? The second line of Tulloch Stakes odds have the James Cummings-trained Victoria Derby winner Prized Icon ($4.50) right in the mix getting the chance to atone for his tenth in last Saturday’s Rosehill Guineas.

So will the two best in betting get the job done or are punters better off looking further down the Tulloch Stakes markets for value in a runner like the Chris Waller-trained Wine Bush ($11) or Peter & Paul Snowden’s Sebring colt Acatour ($8.50)?

Our 2017 Tulloch Stakes Trifecta Tip is #2 Jon Snow from #7 Wine Bush and #13 Noble Truth

1st

#2 Jon Snow ($2.90)

We were on Gingernuts last week and happy to take the Kiwi raider again. This time of year in Sydney over these distances the New Zealand three-year-olds thrive. Co-trainer Murray Baker has won the ATC Derby more than once and this galloper can continue his good run in the Sydney Autumn Carnival features. The NZ Derby form has already been franked, the outside draw here on a mud track is a non-issue and think he’ll be the one to run down in the mud even at the shortening price.

2nd

#7 Wine Bush ($11)

Waller’s son of High Chaparral is up in class for this racing in black-type company for the first time since the 12th in the Victoria Derby last October. Hasn’t won at Rosehill, but wasn’t disgraced with a fifth to gun filly Dawn Wall over 1800m here two back. She’s well-fancied in Vinery Stud Stakes betting for the stable on Saturday, so surely Wine Bush also has to be considered? Ran fifth again at Rosehill over 1900m a fortnight ago on Soft going and from two previous Heavy track starts he boasts two thirds.

3rd

#13 Noble Truth ($61)

Anthony & Edward Cummings saddle-up this progressive Medaglia D’Oro colt who remains a maiden after five career runs. Has been consistent this season coming off three top three efforts including a third over the Newcastle Mile last time out. Looks well-weighted coming back from 58.5kg to 56kg here and jockey Regan Bayliss is in great form. Could surprise over the distance.
