Frolic Ready to Fire in 2017 Golden Slipper

Trainer Michael Freedman is thrilled with the condition of Frolic and is confident that the filly is ready to peak when she takes her place in Saturday’s 2017 Golden Slipper field at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse.

Frolic has only made four competitive appearances at the races since she made her debut in early January, but the filly has more than stamped herself as one to watch in posting two wins and two second place finishes.

Having delivered boom filly She Will Reign her first racing defeat when she stormed home to win the Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200m) on a bottomless Randwick track a fortnight ago, Freedman told RSN that he was initially disappointed when the Husson filly drew into the Golden Slipper field in a wide barrier, but believes that it could mean the difference in success later in the day.

“She’s really thriving and initially I was a little bit deflated when the barriers came out yesterday, but if it’s somewhere between slow and heavy and there’s six or seven races before it, it might not be such a disadvantage to be out there,” Freedman said.

Freedman will also saddle Teaspoon in the 2017 Golden Slipper field, but believes that Frolic is a slightly better chance of saluting.

“As I’ve said before, I think that both fillies are peaking at the right time,” Freedman said.

“The fact that they’ve both performed well on heavy.

“The only thing I’d say about Frolic after watching some replays of her Reisling win, she probably wasn’t as comfortable on the heavy until she got onto the outside part of the track, which was probably closer to a heavy 7.”

Frolic finished second in each of the Newcastle Weekly Maiden (1150m) and TAB Rewards Maiden (1200m) upon debuting to racing; breaking through for a smart win in the Inglis Classic (1200m) in her only other start prior to the Reisling Stakes.

Teaspoon debuted to racing for a smart win in the TAB Plate (1100m); resuming this time to win the Group 3 Widden Stakes (1100m) and finish a luckless third in the Group 2 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) on February 25th.

Ladbrokes.com.au is currently offering Frolic at 2017 Golden Slipper odds of $14, while Teaspoon can be taken at a $41 quote.
