Due to run as Race 4 at 2:35pm (AEDT) on a card headlined by the Chipping Norton Stakes featuring Winx, this season’s $200,000 Group 2 Schweppes Skyline Stakes (1200m) is down to ten runners.
Early favourite in Skyline Stakes betting at Ladbrokes.com.au, the rails-drawn Menari has been withdrawn from the field due to a minor incident in the yard and trainer Gerald Ryan will save him for a possible run Saturday week in the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m).
With Menari out, Skyline Stakes odds have been reshuffled on the colts and geldings looking to earn a ballot free ride into the $3.5 million Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on March 18.
Markets are now led by Dracarys ($7.50 into $4) representing last year’s Golden Slipper Stakes winning trainers Peter & Paul Snowden.
The son of Snitzel debuted at Warwick Farm on February 8 on a Heavy (9) track and enjoyed a smart 1000m win, which bodes well heading into a run over more metres in tougher company this weekend.
Also firming fast is Single Bullet ($7.50 into $5.50) who Gary Portelli has confirmed as a definite runner with Menari out despite drawing the outside alley.
Tim Clark comes aboard to ride the Not A Single Doubt colt who shoots for his maiden win at career start number three after two seconds during the summer.
He caught the eye when flashing home for a second to Madeenaty in the Wyong Magic Millions Classic in December before a last start second to Colesberg at the Farm in early January.
Team Hawkes’ black-type placed Star Witness colt Eden Rock and the unraced Souffrant coming off a winning trial are the other best in betting drawn well coming into barriers one and two respectively.
In an open field of promising juveniles, read on for who to back and who to sack in Skyline Stakes 2017 betting this weekend at Ladbrokes.com.au.
1st
#5 Eden Rock ($6)
Like the winning chances of this Hawkes Racing-trained colt third-up who has run two minor placings both at Randwick. Latest was a third over 1100m from the start of the month behind Veranillo in the Listed Lonhro Plate. The form out of that race was franked when the winner ran second to Golden Slipper favourite She Will Reign in the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes last weekend. Think Eden Rock can continue that here from a gun barrier three draw with Tommy Berry continuing his association.
2nd
#1 Diamond Tathagata ($16)
If the She Will Reign form is the one the bookies are tipping in Golden Slipper Stakes betting, then the odds on offer for this Mark Newnham-trained son of Hinchinbrook on Saturday are overs. The nicely-bred colt has had one run to date when, on a Heavy (8) Randwick track, he was second past the post to She Will Reign as a $51 roughie in the Inglis Nursery. Well-beaten by the runaway winner, but she’s a star and this one is progressive enough for a top three run on the weekend from barrier five.
3rd
#8 Dracarys ($4)
Team Snowden are master trainers of juveniles and that in part explains the new title of Skyline Stakes favourite for this colt. Melbourne Cup winning hoop Corey Brown stays in the saddle after the Warwick Farm win in the wet on debut, the horse will be fitter for the run and only needs to handle the wide alley to be a winning chance again having hit the line strongly last time out.
