Global Glamour Leads 2017 Light Fingers Stakes Betting

Dual Group 1 winning filly Global Glamour will start warm favourite in Light Fingers Stakes 2017 betting after trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott opted not to run her up against Winx in the Apollo Stakes on the same card.

A three-year-old daughter of Star Witness, Global Glamour was a dual acceptor at Royal Randwick on Saturday including a possible run against turf superstar Winx in the $250,000 Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m).

She was subsequently scratched from that run in favour of a start against a field of fellow three-year-old fillies later in the day in the $200,000 Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m).

Under set weights Global Glamour meets her 13 rivals in the Light Fingers Stakes field equal on 56kg, but she is drawn wide out in barrier 12 with Joshua Parr to ride.

Despite the wide alley the bookies have her as the one to beat and she leads Light Fingers Stakes betting at a current quote of $3.40 through Ladbrokes.com.au.

During the spring Global Glamour completed a dual state Group 1 mile double with wins in the Flight Stakes and Thousand Guineas.

Her latest run produced a luckless second behind Flying Jess at the Gold Coast on January 14 when only a quarter-length beaten in the $2 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m).

She’ll be rock hard fit third-up on Saturday and even from the gate looks a definite danger.

There are only three other single-figure fancies in the Light Fingers Stakes odds this season including the $4.80 second elect Spright racing first-up from barrier 10.

Melbourne Cup winning jockey Corey Brown rides Garry Frazer’s flying Hinchinbrook filly in her resuming run, Spright last seen posting a third win on the trot in the Group 3 Red Roses Stakes (1100m) at Flemington during the Melbourne Cup Carnival in November.

Prior to that she enjoyed two Sydney sprint wins including a 2.8 length effort at Randwick on October 15 in black-type company over 1200m.

She has trialled twice leading up to the Light Fingers Stakes and looks set for a big run fresh in a winnable race.

The other early fancies are Foxplay ($6) and Honesty Prevails ($7) drawn in barriers three and four respectively.

Hugh Bowman – also aboard Winx in the Apollo – rides the Chris Waller-trained Foxwedge filly Foxplay who was last seen running a credible fourth to Global Glamour in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m).

She was in star form at home in Sydney prior to that enjoying successive Group 2 Randwick wins and remains undefeated at the track she returns to this weekend.

Honesty Prevails represents Warwick Farm-based trainer Rick Worthington, the Redoute’s Choice filly having won successive hit-outs at her home track in January.

She is first-up since running a well-beaten 10th to Foxplay on a Heavy (8) track in early September’s Group 2 Furious Stakes (1200m) on the back of an eye-catching fifth to Capitalist in the Golden Slipper Stakes as a $51 outsider.
